This weekend’s UNH-Merrimack hockey games cancelled

By Staff and wire reports - | Dec 18, 2020

The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team finally opened its season last Friday and Saturday after two weekends of cancellations.

Well, add another weekend series that won’t be played to the list.

Hockey East announced on Thursday night that the Saturday-Sunday UNH games with Merrimack College “will not be played” in a release listing this weekend’s schedule.

No reason was given, especially whether it was pandemic-related, but Hockey East has been either cancelling or rescheduling games on the fly all season. There was also no immediate word whether the games would be rescheduled.

The Wildcats have played two games so far this season. Last Friday they lost in a shootout to Maine after a 1-1 regulation tie before beating the Black Bears last Saturday night by a 6-2 margin for their first win.

Merrimack was slated to visit UNH at the Whittemore Center on Saturday with the two teams playing at Merrimack on Sunday.

UNH’s next scheduled games are a home at home vs. Providence next Sunday (at Providence) and Monday (at UNH).
