NASHUA — The Nashua Board of Education on Monday night approved by an 8-1 vote the plan for winter sports at the high school and middle school levels.

The approval process was tabled back on Nov. 9, the board preferring to tackle the issue of hybrid vs.remote learning first.

Nashua athletic director Lisa Gingras told the board in an ammendment to the original plan that basketball and ice hockey players would all wear masks during competition. Gingras was informed by state track officials that there will be no indoor track regular season statewide due to lack of facilities but there may be some type of state meet later in the winter.

Also, she added gymnastics and swimming seasons are potentially in jeopardy as well for the same reason. Nashua North and South wrestling and ice hockey teams will compete once a week, Gingras said. Masks will not be required for wrestling or gymnastics, and certainly not swimming.

Practices will begin Dec. 14, Gingras said, with competition starting the week of Jan. 15.
