Dylan Foran headed to NECC as part of student specialist internship

By Staff | Oct 31, 2020

MANSFIELD, Mass.- The New England Collegiate Conference announced Friday morning that Becker senior men’s soccer player is one of three student-athletes in the NECC named to participate in the conference’s Student Specialist Internship.

It is the second year the NECC has offered the Student Specialist Internship, made possible by the NCAAs Diversity and Inclusion Grant. The three student-athletes will assist with the promotion of the conference, its athletics departments, and student-athletes by helping with the coordination of our promotional and management efforts to enhance the league.

Foran joins Giuliana Kelvin from New England College and Ozzy Traill from Eastern Nazarene College as the trio becomes the latest to intern with the conference.

NECC Commissioner Jacob VanRyn shared how excited he was about the addition of Foran, Kelvin, and Traill. “I’m thrilled to welcome each of these three and am very much looking forward to working with them,” said VanRyn. “I’m so excited about what each of them brings to the table and can share with our community. All three have proven to be leaders on their respective campuses and I’m confident each will bring fresh and innovative ideas to the conference.”

Foran, an excellent photographer and graphic designer who is majoring in Sport Management at Becker College, has worked with the NECC before in shooting events for the conference.

“I am excited to intern with the NECC because of the community of different schools I will get to work with, as well as improve upon my graphic design and communication skills,” said Foran.

Interestingly, he also serves as a student-assistant coach for the Becker Softball team. Dylan aspires to work in the sports industry following his graduation this spring as a graphic designer.

Kelvin is a dual-sport student-athlete at New England College. The senior history major is a member of both the Pilgrims’ field hockey and women’s lacrosse programs. She has been very involved on campus, participating in SAAC at NEC, as well as offering her insight on conference efforts previously, including the NECC’s ‘Let’s Talk About It’ mental health campaign.

Kelvin hopes to become a coach or administrator at the collegiate or prep school level following graduation.

“I am so excited to intern with the NECC because it is going to further my education of the athletic world,” said Kelvin. “I am excited to meet new people and work on the promotion of our conference. This is such a great opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started!”

Traill is a senior on the men’s basketball team at Eastern Nazarene. Like Foran, he is also majoring in Sport Management.

“I am excited to intern at the NECC because this is another opportunity to grow and better myself as an individual while growing and gaining professional experience,” said Traill.

Traill has already been instrumental as his efforts led directly to the NECC’s ‘Spark The Change’ student-led campaign encouraging students on each of the conference’s campuses to use their voice to be heard and by participating in the upcoming election.

Each will begin their roles immediately and will serve through the end of the spring semester.

“The student-athlete voice is more important than ever,” continued VanRyn. “The addition of Dylan, Giuliana, and Ozzy has already been tremendous for our conference and I’m excited to see what they will continue to do to enhance our efforts across the league.”
