The Nashua Silver Knights are limping into the Future Collegiate Baseball League’s mini break.

The locals are now 14-11 after suffering their second straight loss, 8-5 Saturday at the hands of the Worcester Bravehearts at Leominster’s (Mass.) Doyle Field.

Nashua is off until it takes on North Shore at Lynn’s Fraser Field Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Knights trail Worcester (15-7) by 2.5 games, but are a game and a half up on Brockton and two on North Shore for the second and final playoff spot with 14 games left. The two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.

Nashua’s problem yesterday came in the fifth inning, when it gave up five runs to turn a 2-1 lead into a 6-2 deficit.

John Mead had another good day at the plate for the Knights, going 3 for 4 to raise his average to .413. Luke Beckstein had two hits and two RBIs, while Ben Rounds had a two-run homer in Nashua’s three run rally in the eighth after it trailed 8-2.

Starter Joe Quintal took the loss, giving up six runs on six hits in 4.1 innings, although only four were earned. He walked three and struck out six.

Starter Angelo Baez got the win on the mound for Worcester, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings.

The FCBL Scout Camps – all 1 p.m. starts – begin on Monday with estfield and New Britain working out before their scheduled NESN game at New Britain Stadium. On Tuesday, Brockton and Worcester will be showcased at Brockton’s Campanelli Stadium, while Nashua and North Shore will get their workouts at Lynn’s Fraser Field on Wednesday. Pitching, hitting and fielding workouts will combine with players running a 60-yard dash with the exception of the Nashua-North Shore camp, which as of now won’t have pitchers perform since they’re slated to play each other after the camp.
