Navigators walk off with a 7-6 win over Silver Knights

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Aug 1, 2020

Hunter became the hunted, and he couldn’t escape.

Cam Climo managed a tiebreaking two-strike, two-out RBI single off Nashua Silver Knights reliever Hunter Owen in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday night at Lynn’s Fraser Field as the North Shore Navigators enjoyed a walk-off 7-6 win.

It was a tough loss for the Knights (14-10) who lost a 3-0 lead giving up five runs to the Navs (10-11) in the sixth but battled back twice to tie it at 5 and then 6-6.

Luke Beckstein went 2 for 5 with two RBIs, while Dom Keegan had a hit and drove in his 25th run of the season for Nashua, which was outhit 9-8. John Mead was the only other hitter in the Nashua lineup that had two hits (2 for 5).

In the bottom of the ninth, Owen walked Ben Malgeri with one out, and after Malgeri stole second, he intentionally walked Logan Bravo.

It looked like he would get out of it, striking out Cody Morissette, who earlier hit a three-run homer. He was a strike away from escaping before Climo lined a 1-2 pitch into right for a base hit.

The loss puts Nashua a game and a half behind Worcester for the top spot in the FCBL as the Bravehearts downed Brockton 6-5 in a game decided by the Home Run Derby. But, it keeps Brockton two games behind Nashua for the final playoff spot.

The Silver Knights will now travel to Doyle Field in Leominster, Mass.to face the Bravehearts, as there was a schedule switch from what was supposed to be a trip to Brockton. With Own pitching last night, that may mean Joe Quintal will get the start.

After tomorrow, Nashua has three days off before returning to Fraser Field for a 1 p.m. Scout Camp which will only involve position players from both teams.

That’s because the pitchers will be needed for a 6 p.m. makeup game between the Knights and Navs after a two hour break.

Nashua returns home next Friday to host Brockton at 6 p.m.
