The Nashua Silver Knights have never been a big fan of the FCBL’s Home Run Derby as a way of deciding games after 10 innings.

Sunday was just another example why. Nashua’s Troy Schreffler, Jr. hit 10 of the team’s 11 homers in its half of the derby, but Worcester’s Ben Rice of Dartmouth College slugged 12 in the home half of the round – including eight straight – to give the Bravehearts an 11-10 win at Doyle Field in Leominster, Mass.

The loss dropped the Knights to 4-5 and ruined a rally from an 8-1 deficit with a whopping nine runs in the seventh inning.

Nashua got two hits and four RBIs from Brady Day, including a three-run homer to highlight the big inning. Max Viera and Mike Rounds each had two hits while Ben Rounds had a hit and walked four times.

Down 10-8,Worcester knotted things with a run in the eighth and another in the ninth on Joe Pesce’s RBI single off Knights reliever Jack Pawloski. Worcester pounded out 15 hits vs. eight Nashua pitchers.

Nashua had a chance to take the lead in the top of the 10th but Lucas Stalman was thrown out trying to steal home.

Nick Shumski had Nashua’s other homer in the Derby.

Nashua has Monday off but returns to Holman Stadium Tuesday at 6 p.m. to face the Brockton Rox.
