Dupere’s three-run homer sparks Knights to first win

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Jul 8, 2020

Telegraph photo by TOM KING Nashua's Jared Dupere was able to break into a home run trot like this one from last week on Tuesday night as his three-run homer keyed a 10-6 Silver Knights win over Brockton at Campanelli Stadium.

Finally, a taste of victory. On the road no less.

And, in front of hardly any fans.

But that didn’t matter to the Nashua Silver Knights on Tuesday, as they scored seven runs over the first two innings and left Brockton’s Campanelli Stadium with their first win of the season, 10-6 over the Brockton Rox.

It marked the first win for Kyle Jackson in his new role as manager. He had eight wins previously filling in.

Nashua (1-3), which had struggled offensively in its first three games, managed 11 hits on Tuesday. Dom Keegan went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Ed Jarvis went 3 for 4 while Jared Dupere smacked his second home run of the year, a three-run shot to highlight the Knights’ first inning.

They then scored four in the second, keyed by Troy Scheffler, Jr.’s RBI double.

Nashua, which never trailed, needed its offensive output as starting pitcher Jack Dicenso lasted just one and a third innings, giving up five runs on four hits. However, the bullpen of Shea Ryan (three innings of one run ball for the win), Steve Miller, Jack Kramer, Chris Chaney and Brandon Dufault did the job.

There were no fans in the stands – just in the Campanelli Beer Garden, considered a restaurant – under the guidelines of the current Massachusetts COVID reopening phase.

The FCBL expansion New Britain Bees make their first appearance at Holman Stadium today at 6 p.m.
