By Tom King - Staff Writer | Jun 29, 2020

Here’s a look at the local baseball weekend results in both the New Hampshire COVID Baseball League and the New England INdependent Baseball League:

NHCBL

MERRIMACK 6,

DOVER 5

Leading 6-1, Merrimack (3-0) survived a Dover rally, thanks in part to its 10-hit output. Blayne Laliberte allowed a run over five innings, fanning three, while Ben Flanders had two hits.

Merrimack hosts Concord today at 5:30 at Nashua’s Harvey Woods Field.

CONCORD 8,

NASHUA 3

The Defenders dropped to 1-3 after losing Saturday to the New Hampshire Prospects Red 12-4 and then being stymied for four innings by Concord pitcher Jonah Wachter on Sunday. Eight different Cannons had hits, including a homer for Adrian Siravo.

On Saturday the Prospects’ Ryan Sweeney did not allow an earned run, striking out nine while Kam Levesque hit a three-run homer.

Nashua looks to get back on track today vs. Dover at 5:30 at Bishop Guertin.

NEIBL

HUDSON 8-13,

UPPER VALLEY 7-1

Hudson opened its NEIBL season Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Upper Valley. The twinbill was originally slated for July 4.

In the first game, won 8-7 in eight innings, Jacob Hobart was the star as he not only struck out 10 in six innings, but he had two hits, scored three runs, including the game winner.

Game 2 lasted just five innings due to the mercy rule as Hudson pounded out 16 hits, with Travis Holbrook leading the way with three. Brady Sima and Isaiah Power had two hits apiece.

The locals host Amherst on Tuesday.

WEARE 5-5

MERRIMACK 2-0

Visiting Merrimack had a tough start to its season Sunday, falling in the first game and then was blanked in a rain-shortened second game.

In the first game, Dylan Brander led the way for the locals with two hits and a run scored. Ryan Somers had a hit, walk and a run, while Jake Bunis had a hit and two RBIs. In Game 2, Nick Demattia went 1 for 2 while Cody Keefe had a hit and was also hit by a pitch.

Merrimack visits Upper Valley on Tuesday.
