May 12, 1975 – “John Gureckis tossed a three-hitter at cross-town rival Bishop Guertin yesterday afternoon at Holman Stadium as the Panthers scored a 3-0 wn over the Cardinals in schoolboy baseball action.

“Gureckis started strong as he struck out the first three Guertin batters and finished with nine K’s while allowing only six runners to reach base.”

May 12, 1980 – “Jerry Robito, the 165-pound division All-East AAU full-contact karate champion, will be the only New Englander in the national championships to be held in Las Vegas in June.

“Robito, who is an instructor at Chinese Kenpo karate at the Independent Karate School in Nashua, holds a third-degree black belt in Kenpo karate and jiu-jitsu. He won the 1979 New England grand championship in Kenpo karate, defeating 10 black belts in the process.”

Also in this edition of the Telegraph:

“Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark ‘The Bird’ Fydrich reportedly is seeing a hypnotist as part of his bid to come back after more than to seasons of virtually constant arm trouble.

“Fydrich was sent to Detroit’s Evansville, Ind. farm club as part of his rehabilitation but was making little progress. A week ago, he was hit hard by Wichita and left the game with a sore arm.”

A sad slide for a man who seemed a lock for pitching greatness.

“May 12, 2019 – “There’s something about the sight of the Nashua High School South softball team that brings out the best in the Nashua North Titans, even in a down year.

Under third year head coach Jenna Giannelli, North is 5-0 against the Panthers, including Saturday’s 12-6 win in the annual Battle of the Bridge.

“We always come out and perform against South,” Giannelli said, her team now just 2-11 on the season after five losses by three runs or less. “North typically takes it. That’s history, right?”

“I’ve played with half the girls on South at Elm Street,” said North slugger Alexis Miranda, who keyed the win going 4 for 4 with a walk and four RBIs, reaching base five times. “This game helps us.”
