Alvirne High School alum Brycen Yarmo has a new football home.

Yarmo,a tight end, signed a letter of intent Wednesday – an allowed early signing day before the main one in February – with the University of Akron.

Yarmo’s football journey had been an interesting one. His career was delayed by a two-year missionary period for the Church of Latter Day Sints in Colorado.

He then red shirted at Arizona Western Junior College, but last year the school dropped football.

Yarmo tranferred last January to Coffeyville (Kan.) Junior College, where after a stellar season this fall he was reportedly rated a three-star recruit by Rivals 24/7 and was listed as top 10 JuCo tight end by GridironRR.com.

According to Yarmo’s father, Paul, one of the appealing things about Akron was the opportunity to play right away.

“They told him if he came to Akron, he’d be No. 1 on the depth chart,” Paul Yarmo said.

Yarmo actually reports to Akron next month.
