Local players contending in State Junior Amateur Golf tourney

CONCORD – Day 1 of New Hampshire Junior Amateur is in the books, and a quarter of the area’s players got off to a solid start on Monday at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.

Amherst Country Club’s Gunnar Senatore fired a 1-over par round of 73, and he sits in second, a pair of shots behind the Monday medalist, Mat Gover of Atkinson Country Club.

Nashua Country Club’s Bryce Zimmerman is tied for third at 75, while Brookline’s Colin McCaigue, who also plays out of Amherst CC, is in a tie for fifth at 76. Russell Hamel of Nashua Country Club was the fourth area player in the top 10 at 77, tied for ninth.

Other area finishers on Day 1 included: Jack Fitzgerald of Sky Meadow Country Club at 84 and Noah Leclair of Nashua Country Club at 86.

The State Junior is now a 54-hole stroke-play event, which is new in 2019. The groups will be flighted after 36 holes today.

Play resumes Tuesday morning with Round 2. Senatore tees it up at 7:39 a.m., with Zimmerman going at 7:48. Gover, McCaigue and Fitzgerald tee it up together at 8:54. Hamel goes at 8:45, and LeClair plays in the final threesome at 9:21.
