Brickman ready to be a potent bat for Silver Knights

NASHUA – Alex Brickman has always liked Holman Stadium in past FCBL seasons as a member of the North Shore Navigators.
So why not call it home for a summer?
The slugger who hit seven homers with 41 RBIs for the Navs last year arrived on Saturday as the newest member of the Nashua Silver Knights after getting released by Orleans in the Cape Cod League. Brickman’s Knights debut was delayed as Nashua’s game with Brockton Saturday night was postponed due to rain.
“It was a good experience down there,” Brickman said of Orleans. “But I was released and (Neverett) gave me a call and said, ‘We have a spot for you.’ It seemed like a good opportunity to come play. Having played against these guys, I’ve always liked (Holman). And they were always really good. It worked out and presented itself as a good opportunity.”
North Shore didn’t re-sign Brickman after last season to hold on to his FCBL rights, so he was free to go anywhere.
“Originally I had some communication with (the Navs) in the fall, and I couldn’t end up commiting to them, just scheduling,” Brickman, who is from Andover, Mass., said. “I didn’t know what was going to happen. There was a little bit of time where I thought I might end up back (in Lynn) but I just love baseball, and this was a spot where they would let me play and that’s what I was going to do.
“I love hitting in environments like this. It makes you feel like a pro and keeps your mind on keep chasing the dream.”
“He adds experience, he’s older,” Neverett said. “He’s going to add more leadership.”
Brickman played this past spring at St. Petersburg (Fla.) College, hitting .336 with seven homers, 44 RBIs while slugging .572. He’s moving on to Dayton University in the fall to play for former Franklin Pierce coach Jasyon King.

Saturday’s game was postponed, especially since it was to be “Pink Night”, a charity event to raise money for the fight against breast cancer, and the raw, drizzily weather would have severely limited the crowd.
The game itself will be made up as part of a single admission seven-inning doubleheader vs. Brockton on Monday, July 2, beginning at 4 p.m. That’s the night the club will also have its holiday fireworks show. There will be a half hour intermission between games.
As for Pink Night, it has been rescheduled as part of the festivities for the final regular season home game on Saturday, Aug. 4 vs. Pittsfield at 6:05 p.m. The team’s pink jerseys will be auctioned off then.
The Knights announced tickets for Saturday’s rained out game can be exchanged for any game the remainder of the season, including the July 2 doubleheader.

Friday was another big step for Nashua native and Silver Knights starter Spencer Bergeron. He went four innings in the team’s 14-3 win over North Shore allowing one run on three hits, walking two.
“He was good,” Neverett said. “He wasn’t as sharp as he was the first time (a week ago) there. He had a little stressful first inning which probably cost him (going out for) the fifth inning as we’re still being careful with him. But he did pretty good.”
Knights pitching coach Kyle Jackson said the plan is to keep stretching out Bergeron, who is getting the most action he’s seen since undergoing Tommy John surgery in February of 2017. “Right now, we’re going to keep him at 60 (pitches),” he said. “We just want to be careful.”

Former Major League pitcher Tom Candiotti, in town to see his son Casey pitch for the Silver Knights – he’s slate to possibly go on Monday – says he loves Holman Stadium.
“I watched the game (Friday) night at North Shore, I thought that ballpark (Lynn’s Fraser Field) was fun. But Case was telling me how much he loves this ballpark. He sent me pictures, and I’ve seen it on line, but to be here, it’s beautiful. When you see the trees behind the fences, it reminds me so much of when I was in the minor leagues. … All the in-between inning promotions, etc., it kind of messes with your memory.”
