Silver Knights, Bergeron pick up a win in Lynn

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Jun 7, 2018

Don’t look now, but Nashua Silver Knights pitching coach Kyle Jackson has extended his record as acting manager with the team to 5-0 after the Knights topped North Shore, 5-3, Thursday at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.

Trailing 1-0, Nashua tied the game in the third on an error and Jared Brescia RBI single. That was followed by a Luke Tyree bloop RBI single and a Jeff Costellos RBI triple to give Nashua a 3-1 lead.

Amherst’s Bryce Reagan’s first Silver Knights RBI on a ground out plated Nick Biddison to make it 4-1 in the fourth. Nashua added an insurance run in the sixth as Thomas Joyce picked up the RBI. Costello and Brescia each had twohits.

Nashua native Spencer Bergeron tossed two innings of two-hit relief to pick up his first Silver Knights win. He followed starter Brandon Dufault of Windham (Northeastern) who gave up one run on five hits in four innings. Former Souhegan hurler Joe Grassett, just arriving after the University of Hartford competed in the NCAA tournament and tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh, but North Shore (1-5) got a couple of runs off Nashua reliever Aidan Welch (Millersville) in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-3.

However, Derek Duffy (Franklin Pierce) tossed 1.2 innings, including a scoreless ninth, to put out the fire and pick up the save.

Jackson was managing the team as B.J. Neverett had teaching duties in Nashua.

Nashua (2-4) heads to Bristol on Thursday to take on the Blues at Muzzy Field. The Knights are off Friday, back at North Shore on Saturday and return home Sunday to take on the Navigators at 5:05 p.m.
