Calvary Lock & Key 6, Amherst Autoworks 2

Chick Hamel pitched yet another good game for Calvary, holding Amherst to two runs on 12 hits while his lineup stroked 13 hits, the big one being a double by Del Patton with the bases loaded which plated three in the third inning. A gallant Amherst squad couldn’t solve Hamel’s stuff and they could muster only one hit in the last two innings.

Four of the locksmiths had 2-for-3 days: Bob Lamontagne, Jerry Anctil, Patton and Leo Melanson. Amherst’s big guns were the Nos. 5, 6 and 7 batters, Bert Guimond and manager Geoff Geoffrion with two hits each, and Kip Ferguson with three. Hamel helped his own cause by going 1 for 2 and scoring a run.

Art’s Painting 8, IMEC 6

This battle pitted the season’s first-place team against the third-place team and it did not disappoint as it was tied 6-6 at the end of seven. Down by two in the top of the fourth, Art’s took a one-run lead with three runs on five hits, then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth. But the IMEC engineers pushed across three in their half of the sixth to tie it up

In the eighth, manager Jerry Ferullo and pitcher Steve Stitt led off with hits. A Murph Albert fly to right-center moved Ferullo to third and a hit by Rick Latham plated the runs.

For the winners Steve Coco, Latham and Joe Bimonte were all 3 for 4 and Bruce Landry Bill Flanagan, Stitt and Bill Ohm had two hits each. Pitcher Thom Riley had a 3-for-3 day for IMEC and Bill Moccia went 2 for 3. Sub George Mosnicka was 2 for 2.

M&N Sports 12, Dr. Dionne’s Seniors 1

The Seniors had the lead in this one until the sportsmen came to bat in the bottom of the first and took a 4-1 lead. M&N’s Bob Lemieux then held the Seniors to only five hits over the next five innings as his mates posted six more runs.

Perfect days were had by the winners’ skipper, George Mosnicka, and by Lemieux. Frank Sommer, Don Kasper, Steve Meltzer and sub Mike Reilly were each 2 for 3. The Seniors’ offense was led by two hits by Jim Edwards and Ron Monteiro.

Calvary Lock & Key 10, Hanson’s Automotive 8

Rainouts caused the schedule to be condensed and Calvary had to play a doubleheader, but the players didn’t seem tired when they had a 7-3 lead going into the 5th. But Hanson’s scored the maximum five runs on six hits (two doubles) to tie it up.

The locksmiths came right back in their half of the sixth with two runs on three hits, the big blow being a triple by Jerry Anctil that scored the winning runs. Hanson’s went meekly in the bottom of the inning and Calvary moved on to the next round.

Anctil, Steve Ulicny and Bob Lamontagne had 3-for-4 days for the winners with Del Patton and Chick Hamel contributing two hits each. Hanson’s had five men with two-hit days: Ron Lewis, Tom Anderson, Dan Walsh and subs Roger Neild and John Poulos.

Calvary Lock & Key 15, M&N Sports 8

The resurgent Calvary team isoundly beat M&N. Up 10-6 in the top of the seventh, Calvary scored five runs on six hits and a walk to take a commanding lead. M&N also managed six hits but could plate only two runners. Both teams had 23 hits.

Jerry Anctil and Frank Miethe were both perfect on the day for Calvary going 4 for 4 and 3 for 3, while Del Patton had three hits and a sacrifice fly in his four at-bats. Leo Melanson and Rob Rich contributed 3-for-4 days and Steve Ulicny, John Ogrodowczyk and manager Bob Lavoie were 2 for 4. Bob Lamontagne, Calvary’s leadoff hitter, reached base three times with one hit and two walks.

Skipper George Mosnicka’s squad was led by pitcher Bob Lemieux’s 4 for 4 with Frank Sommer and Jerry Levin going 3 for 4. Mosnicka reached three times on two hits and a walk and Don Kasper, Paul Kaminski, Earl Rinker and subs Joe D’Ambrosio and Charlie Howe helped out with two hits each.

IMEC 18, Calvary Lock & Key 9

When your team’s lineup reaches base 29 times in 40 at bats, it’s tough to lose a game and IMEC’s engineers proved that with a resounding thumping. Ten out of 11 IMEC batters had multi-hit at-bats and they scored in every inning but the third in this semifinal game.

IMEC manager Charlie Howe and steady Al Ross led the winners each going 4 for 4 while Bill Moccia, Paul Nickerson, Rich Stockdale and sub Woody Woodward managed three hits each. Lenny Rapone, Steve Morgan, Al Jarry and sub Bob Lemieux rounded out the attack with two hits each. Bob Lavoie’s Calvary 11 managed a bunch of hits but couldn’t string them together effectively. Bob Lamontagne and Jerry Anctil led their attack each going 3 for 4. Steve Brzozowski, Steve Ulicny, Leo Melanson and John Ogrodowczyk all managed two hits.

MEC moved onto the final to face Art’s Painting, last year’s league and playoff winners.
