Portsmouth’s DiCesare no-hits Salem in Legion tourney

By Staff | Jul 29, 2012

Kyle DiCesare threw a no-hitter to lead Portsmouth Post 6 to a 3-1 victory Sunday over Salem Post 63 in the American Legion senior tournament at Holman Stadium.

It was the second time Salem was no-hit in the tournament, as Manchester Post 79’s Carmen Giampetruzzi did the same Friday night, and the loss eliminated Post 63 from the tournament.

DiCesare struck out nine and walked six as Salem scored its lone run on a walk, a wild pitch and an error in the top of the second inning. Portsmouth answered in the bottom half, tying the game on three walks and a single.

Post 6 took the lead for good in the third, when Ben Gareau scored on a wild pitch, and Portsmouth added an insurance run in the fifth. Ricky Holt led off the inning with a double and came around to score as Salem’s Clayton Landers hit three straight batters.

Landers took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits and four hit batters in 2 2/3 innings. Nick Roussel pitched the final four innings for Salem, surrendering four hits and a walk.

Jordan Bean went 3 for 4 with a RBI for Portsmouth and Holt had two hits.

Portsmouth will play Monday at 4 p.m. against the loser of Sunday night’s game between Concord and Goffstown.
