Hoyer’s a much better coach than he is a quarterback
There’s never a dull moment in Foxborough, is there?
The week that was: AnkleGate. What did Mac Jones know and when did he know it.
Right?
Bill Belichick’s “Day by Day” 12 time chorus certainly took the cake, and all the nonsense about Jones wants a second opinion and tightrope surgery, Jones tells players not to rule him out, etc., etc.
Look, the eye test never fails. Jones was in intense pain when taken off the field last Sunday and there was no way, athlete or not, he was going to be able to play in today’s game in Green Bay. That idea was far more than a Lambeau Leap.
Now we all think because he was propped up in uniform and a taped ankle that he’s close. The fact that he wasn’t placed on injured reserve yesterday was a sign that the Patriots feel he’ll be able to play sometime in the next week or two. Otherwise, they would have placed him on IR and let him rest it a month.
Today it’s Brian Hoyer’s turn, and, well, it just doesn’t seem like a fair fight with Aaron Rodgers on the other side. Hoyer will make a far better coach than a starting quarterback, which makes him a great backup.
“You never want to see anyone get hurt, ever,” he said. “And we all know Mac’s hunger to compete to be out there. For e, ou support him, but also be ready to play, in the same sense. That’s just the nature of the job.”
The nature of this job is you win some, you lose some and we have had a record three straight losing weeks to start the season.
The streak snaps today:
PACKERS 24, PATRIOTS 10
Hoyer is smart, knows the offense, and can improvise well. The problem with Hoyer is he throws the ball to the other team far too often. Some Patriots fans, including a few from Nashua, have made the trip to Lambeau. It’s worth it, but seeing Lambeau will be their highlight.
BILLS 27, RAVENS 24
Tough to win in Baltimore but can you really see this Buffalo team losing two straight? The Bills defense finds a way to corral Lamar Jackson.
RAIDERS 30, BRONCOS 7
What happens in Vegas will be a win finally for Josh McDaniels, who now gets to stay in Vegas. The Broncos are so poorly coached it’s a joke.
RAMS 27, NINERS 17
The Rams have more firepower; there’s no way the San Francisco system can match points in this rematch of last year’s NFC title game. Tough one for Jimmy G & Co.
VIKINGS 29, SAINTS 17
Welcome to London, Mates, and don’t forget it’s a 9:30 a.m.game for us to watch. Andy Dalton will likely be the Saints starter, and the Vikings will be able to drive him to throw them the ball instead of to his teammates. But stick with coffee this morning, not tea.
EAGLES 24, JAGUARS 21
Who would have thought this is really the best game of the day? Jalen Hurts MVP? Doug Pederson Coach of the Year? Oh my we are getting carried away. But Eagles do look good, and Pederson will get warm reception from the Philly fans, but not his former team.
CHIEFS 30, BUCANEERS 17
Let’s face it, folks, Tom Brady should have stayed retired. He has no receivers and the offensive line has been decimated injuries. Kind of looks like his final year in Foxborough.
LAST WEEK: 3-4
SEASON: 9-12
