JUNE 24, 1947 – “Don Newcombe collected his 10th win, a 13-1 rout, in the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep for the Nashua Dodgers over the Pawtucket Slaters last night. Nashua won the first game 3-2.

“… Bases on balls, usually the nemesis of Dodger pitchers, starred in a reverse role yesterdsy and figured important in both of the Bums’ wins. Three passes in the final frame of the first game eventually scored and provided Nashua with its winning margin. Eight bases on balls in the first two innings of the nightcap figured in all but one of the eight run scored by the Little Dodgers off Pawtucket starter Clarence Willis.”

JUNE 25, 1962 – “For the fourth straight year, Fred Tirrell and daughter, Bette, won the seventh annual state Father-Daughter golf championship.

“The Nashua pair posted a 78 yesterday at the Majalaki Country Club in Franklin in the 18-hole scotch event.”

JUNE 26, 1967 – “Two Nashua girls – members of the Nashua High School track team – won honors in Saturday’s women’s AAU Invitational Track Meet held in Belmont, Mass.

“Jade Fraser, the New Hampshire state titlist in the 440-yard dash, copped first-place honors again in the 440. And Ginny Corriveau, second-place state winner in the hurdles and long jump, placed third in the long-jump event.”

JUNE 27, 1972 – “Nashua’s Northwest Little League All-Star team shut out Hudson’s American League All-Star nine, 11-0, in a thrill-packed final game of the Greater Nashua Little League Invitational All-Star Tournament on Saturday afternoon at North League Field.

“The combined pitching of Dennis Laliberte and Mike Krueger handcuffed the Hudson nine, allowing only one hit.”

In pursuit of brevity, did anyone refer to the tournament by its initials – the GNLLIAST?

And just how many thrills were packed in this 11-0 game, especially for Hudson?

JUNE 28, 1982 – “Tom Kremen of Merrimack and George Lagos of Concord won the New Hampshire State Closed Men’s Doubles Tennis Tournament ton Sunday at the Bow Brook Club.

“The winning duo beat Curt Tetreault of Milford and Clint Forrest of Antrim, the No. 2 seeds, in the finals 7-5, 6-3.”

Ah, the old NHSTCMDTT.

JUNE 29, 1992 – “… Sunday, in the 12th Annual Alhambra Basketball Classic, Merrimack’s Matt Ripaldi gave his longtime fans and hundreds of instant converts something to remember him by.

“Ripaldi finished with a game-high 37 points to help New Hampshire gun down Vermont 94-80in the yearly clash of the top high school seniors in the two states.”

In New Hampshire’s 84-57 girls win, Nashua’s Marcie Byrd was chosen as the game’s MVP. Byrd’s 17 points in the first half fueled a 47-23 lead, putting the game out of Vermont’s reach.

JUNE 30, 2017 – “Nashua Country Club members Tommy Ethier and Jack Brown have played countless rounds of golf together. Next time the friends tee off, Ethier will own the bragging rights – and a bigger trophy to prove it.

“Ethier, a recent Bishop Guertin graduate, took control early and closed out recent Alvirne graduate Jack Brown on the 17th hole for a 3-and-1 triumph to claim the New Hampshire Golf Association Junior Championship on Thursday at Stonebridge Country Club.”
