MAY 13, 1952 – “The Nashua High golf team won its second match of the season yesterday when it outclassed a Fitchburg High aggregation by a score of 9-0 at the Oak Hill Country Club.

“William Lockhead took medalist honors, shooting an 89. Other Nashua winners included William Dorson, Karl Foster, John Wirbal, Kenneth Barnes and Kenneth Rice.”

MAY 14, 1962 – “Coming from behind with a four-run uprising in the eighth inning, which was sparked by a pinch-hit single by Dick Cabral to send home the tying run, Nashua High quickly quickly bounced back into the win column at the expense of Manchester Central, 7-4, yesterday afternoon in the Queen City.

“… Southpaw pitcher Jim Labrecque came on with one out in the bottom of the second and retired the side on a double play. Labrecque finished the pitching chore and before he retired he had fanned 1313 and walked only two.”

MAY 15, 1967 – “Bruce Jones posted a 31 for low gross honors in the Best Selected Nine Tournament at Whip-Poor-Will Golf Club yesterday. Ken McAfee’s 31-7-24 won low net. Second gross went to Joe Monahan (34) and second net went to Jim O’Brien, 34-8-26.

“On Saturday, Jones won low gross with a 38 in the First or Second Nine Tournament. McAfee took low net, 40-7-33.”

MAY 16, 1987 – “The Alvirne High School softball team is giving just about every opponent a rough time these days, but the Broncos are still having trouble with the finishing touches.

“Alvirne broke out to an early lead against high-flying Londonderry om Friday, but the Lancers came up with two runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to nail down their eighth straight win, 5-3, bring their record to 13-3.

“… The Broncos led 3-1 after the second before Londonderry pitcher Amy Molina tool charge. Molina allowed three hits, striking out five and walking four.”

MAY 17, 1992 – “It’s nail-biting time for former Nashua High School pitcher Shawn Hill, who just completed a 9-5 season for Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

“Hills and his teammates are waiting to see if their 36-16 season is good enough to get them an at-large bid in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. They’ll be tuning in Monday afternoon when the pairings are announced on ESPN.”

Nicholls State received an at-large bid for the Mid-East Regionals, then lost in its bid for a ticket to the College World Series.”

MAY 18, 2017 – “The ninth hitter in any batting order can do some damage, as Campbell High School’s D.J. Simoneau proved in the heat on Wednesday. Simoneau knocked in the winning runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth and then made an incredible diving catch in the top of the seventh to pace the Cougars’ 4-2 win over Conant.

Campbell remains unbeaten in Division III at 12-0, and this was their second win over the tough Orioles (8-2) this spring.”

MAY 19, 1982 – “Fresh off their triumph in the State Championships, the Andrews Power Gym roared to victory in the Region 1 Powerlifting Championsips, the largest meet on the East Coast.

“Ray Houle won the 132-pound weight class; Dave Miler was second and Wayne Andrews was third in the 275-pound class.”
