JAN. 8, 1972 – “The Nashua High Purple Panthers rolled to their fourth straight victory last night behind the superb shooting of NHS captain Pete Dufour by outclassing the Winnacunnet Warriors in the final period for a commanding 74-58 victory.

“Dufour led all scorers by putting together a virtuoso display of 14 field goals and 12 from the charity stripe for a total of 40 points. … The only other player in double figures for Nashua was John Keating with 12 points.”

JAN. 9, 1982- “The destiny looked pretty bleak for Milford AREA Senior High’s record when the Spartans trailed Keene High – in Keene – by nine points with three minutes left. “But the Spartans staged a tremendous comeback to send the game into overtime and beat the Blackbirds 63-61.

” ‘It was just a gutsy job by the whole team,’ coach Mo Facques said. ‘There were a lot of heroes.’

“One was guard Scooter Gay, who scored a season-high 24 points, including 26 in the second half and all four of 4-0 Milford’s points in the overtime.”

And horror of horrors, they didn’t even make it to the Class L final last year. They were final no-shows for the first time in eight years.

“But it’s beginning to look like old times for the members of the Nashua High School girls basketball team. … The Panthers – 6-0 in Class L and 9-0 overall – crushed Trinity of Manchester 99-24 Tuesday night and have outscored opponents by an average of 81-35.6 so far.”

JAN. 11, 2007 – “The Hollis/Brookline wrestling team improved to 9-0 in dual meets following its 46-27 win over Bow on Wednesday in Hollis.

“Dan Golia (112-lbs.) and Justin McQuaid (119) each wasted no time in getting victories as Golia pinned his opponent in 0:51 and McQuaid pinned his in 0:59. Kyle Pelton (140) also scored a win via pinfall for the Cavaliers while Matt Lynch scored a 14-4 major decision over Jim Paveglio in the 189-pound match.”

JAN. 12, 2012 – “Earning early playing time as a college freshman in a rebuilding basketball program is one thing. Playing important minutes on a veteran team hoping to win a conference title and advance to the NCAA tournament is something else. Katie Donovan, the three-sport standout from Alvirne, is doing the latter at Rhode Island College.

“On a team with two 1,000-point scorers and a transfer from a Division II program, Donovan has started six games
