Don’t worry Pats fans, they’ll get the win, others get them in
Recovered yet from last Sunday’s debacle vs. Buffalo?
If not, fear not: the Jacksonville Jaguars are in town, New England Patriots fans, and they are the cure to your holiday Patriots hangover.
It’s been an interesting week, as the Patriots always provided us with entertainment: New Year’s resolutions, has Mac Hit the Rookie Wall, Will Josh McDaniels Leave, etc.
There will be cheers and celebrations at Gillette, and who knows, perhaps a playoff clincher. A win just won’t completely do it, but look for this: A Patriots win, and either a Las Vegas or Miami loss or tie. All three are quite possible as the Raiders are facing formidable Indianapolis while the Dolphins are taking on Tennessee – both on the road. No way both teams pull off victories.
And no way these Patriots lose to Jacksonville.
Of course, you can’t convince Bill Belichick of that.
“They did a good job last week against the Jets,” he said, when asked about rookie QB Trevor Lawrence, “mixing in different varieties of passes, quick throws, moving pocket throws, deep balls, third down conversions, red area plays. He’s (Lawrence) pretty good at all of them and continues to get better.”
But is he as good an NFL quarterback right now as Mac Jones? No, despite the regression Jones has shown latetly.
Jones has a chance to turn it around today. The Jags are in town.
So how about those New Year’s Resolutions, Bill?
“They would all be personal,” he said. “It probably wouldn’t mean anything to you anyways.”
The resolution here: No more mediocrity. It’s five straight weeks and counting for a 4-3 record. Somthing has to give:
PATRIOTS 37, JAGUARS 3
This AFC East will not lose at home to the Jags. Good grief, poor Lawrence, stuck in an abysmal situation while getting lousy coaching. Hopefully the Jags will hire a QB-friendly coach for next season. Gee, Josh McDaniels is available, why isn’t he being mentioned?
TITANS 24, DOLPHINS 16
Tua vs. Tannehill, Vrabel vs. Flores, oh this is a good one. Problem is, would you trust either quarterback to get the job done? Dolphins streak comes to an end, but that would be too bad because we’d love to see next Sunday’s finale vs. Pats in Miami be for a playoff spot. Nope.
CHIEFS 37, BENGALS 34
Ah, the teacher Pat Mahomes vs. the pupil Joe Burrow. Could the second year QB pull it off? Of course. The only question is whether the Bengals defense can. We say no.
CARDINALS 30, COWBOYS 27
Arizona has fallen on some hard times, but you know, just when you think Dallas has its act together, the Cowboys give you a clunker. This won’t be a complete fallout, as it should be close. But the Cards snap their losing streak.
PACKERS 40, VIKINGS 13
No Kurt Cousins thanks to COVID, ironically, as the Vikes visit Lambeau to take on Mr. Immunization, Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, what was shaping up to be a good offensive duel on Sunday Night becomes, well, yeah, a clunker – and NBC is screaming.
BILLS 24, FALCONS 23
Just not convinced about Buffalo yet, even after what we saw last week at Gillette. After all, we’re talking about a team that lost to the Jaguars at home. So the Bills win, clinch the AFC East, but Matt Ryan & Co. make it more difficult than it should have been.
RAVENS 27, RAMS 23
We keep picking the Ravens and they keep letting us down. Hey may as well stay with the plan, right? Lamar Jackson has practiced, is good to go, and just when you thought L.A.was on top of its game and the Ravens were fading away, think again.
LAST WEEK: 4-3
SEASON: 73-41
