SEPT. 10, 1976: “Bob Trowbridge and Mary Zickus won the menís and womenís divisions in the Nashua Swim and Tennis Clubís annual singles tournament. Both the winners were top seeds in their divisions.

“Zickus breezed past her opponents, giving up a total of only four games along the way. Trowbridge faced second-seeded Scott Davis in the finals and won 7-5, 6-4.”

SEPT. 11, 1981: “The popular Val Poulin, a longtime standout golfer at Nashua Country Club, was roasted by his fellow linksmen last night in a testimonial held in his honor at the McNulty-Foley Hall, kicking off festivities for this weekendís City Golf Tournament.

“Poulin was jabbed on all sides by his fellow golfers but bore up well under the ribbing.”

SEPT 12, 1986: “Hollis High School coach Vicky Parady-Guay called it a great game, and she was on the losing end.

“The field hockey teams from Hollis and Wilton Lyndeborough met under the lights Thursday night and Wiltonís Kristen Vander-Heyden scored the game’s only goal on a first-half penalty stroke for a 1-0 triumph.

“Both teams played very well,î Parady-Guay said. ìWe had our chances.”

SEPT. 13, 2001: “Helena Iaquinta stopped eight shots in goal in the first half and then played an instrumental role on offense from a midfielder position in the second half as the Panthers picked up their first victory of the season.

“Trailing 1-0 at halftime, junior Natala Lanazara scored on a pass from Christine Rutigliano five minutes into the half. Ten seconds later, Meg Parkin scored to give the Panthers the lead for good. Katie Dolan was credited with the assist on the play.”

SEPT. 14, 2006: “The Nashua North volleyball team brought its record to 4-1 with a straight-set win over the Panthers on Wednesday at South. Brittany Sullivan had 22 saves and 8 kills to lead the Titans.

“Teammates Kelsey Hogan (10 points, 11 assists), Shannyn Burns (five points), Allysa Guidoboni (three points, four assists), Brittany LeDoux (six kills), and Laura Duston (six kills) also helped North in the win. The games scored were 26-24, 25-13, and 25-21.”

SEPT. 15, 2011: “Olivia Plenty recorded a hat trick to lead the Division III Cougars to a win over Division IV Derryfield. Campbell (7-0), which did all its scoring in the first half, also got a goal and an assist from Casey Mellen while Liz Pettis had three assists.

“Jessica Belzil played well and Ashley Gannon was solid on defense while Shannon Lavigne and Heather Baron combined for three saves as the Cougars recorded their fifth shutout of the season.”

SEPT. 16, 1971: “Mel Briggs, a 5-10, 175-pound Nashua High grid star, is rapidly making his presence felt in the Boston College football lineup. Listed as a halfback and flanker on coach Joe Yukica’s multiple offense, Mel has come a long way since spring practice.

“I’m trying to work him in as fast as I can,” Yukica said. “He figures in my plans more and more every day.”
