SEPT. 3, 1971: “The McLaughlin Movers of Nashua pounded out 14 hits and capitalized on three early-inning errors to best Harvey’s Caterers of Rochester in the finals of the second annual Franklin Tourney last night. Harry Gary and Nick Mandravelis shared the batting honors with three hits apiece and Frank Ulcikas tallied a home run.

“Harvey’s Caterers managed just six hits off Dick Ireland.”

SEPT. 4, 1976: “The team of faculty member Peter Guenette and student Dow Williamson won the fourth annual Bishop Guertin High School Faculty-Varsity Golf Tournament at Nashua Country Club on Thursday.

“Guenette and Williamson, seeded second, beat the No. 3 team of Brother Guy Beaulieu, the varsity head coach, and Dan Dransfield on the second playoff hole. Both teams were 3-under par after nine holes.”

SEPT. 5, 1986: “The mood was almost festive.

” ‘Compared to what I’ve seen in the past,’ said Milford AREA Senior High School field hockey coach Jeanne O’Brien, ‘this was the best game we’ve ever played.’

“However, there was just one problem – the Spartans lost the contest, 1-0, to Goffstown, to open their season on a tough note.

“That note didn’t sound so sour to O’Brien, especially when she considered that her team opened a 2-11-1 season by losing to the Redskins 6-0 last year.”

SEPT. 6, 2001: “Nashua High School opened their season with a dominating performance against Manchester West winning both games 15-2. The highlight of the match was in the second game with junior outside hitter Tracey Hoffman serving all 15 points.

“There was also a trio of players who were outstanding in the opening game; Carrie Fenton (11 service points), Kelly Landry (three kills) and Lynne Albert (seven assists).”

SEPT. 7, 2006: “The language barrier is still a huge one for Souhegan High School senior Alain Labbe, who moved to Amherst last summer from Saint-Georges, Quebec. But the football barrier was broken, seemingly, the first time he stepped on the field for the Sabers.

“In his first game as a starting tailback/linebacker last Friday night, Labbe played an important role in Souhegan’s season-opening 46-28 victory over Milford.

Labbe rushed for 95 yards on 16 carries and scored the opening touchdown of the season on a tackle busting 16-yard run.”

SEPT. 8, 2011: “Nashua North won its Division I volleyball season opener, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-15 over Alvirne

“Emily Boots led the way for North with 10 service points, 19 kills and three blocks, while Bridget McCarthy had 13 service points and 24 assists. Katie Przystac chipped in with 13 service points and 14 kills and Erica Vendituoli added 16 service points, 16 assists and three kills.

“Alvirne got 12 kills from Laina Somero while Jasmine Hamilton added 14 service points and four kills and Marisa Coronis chipped in with six kills and two blocks.”

SEPT. 9, 2016: “Nashua High School South offensive coordinator Bill Monsen was laughing when he quipped that Panthers quarterback Sean Holland would have been a fantasy football stud during their 76-41, opening-game victory over Spaulding High School.

“Holland’s statistics certainly weren’t a joke – passing for 221 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 142 yards and four more scores.”
