JULY 30, 1966: “A bases-loaded double by Jack Fortier in the eighth inning pushed two runs home for the Nashua Babe Ruth League All Stars to give them a 5-3 come-from-behind win over Dover yesterday afternoon at Holman Stadium in the New Hampshire BR Tournament.

“… Dean Palanski won his second game of the tournament in relief of Nashua starter Mike Dionne.”

JULY 31, 1976: “The Nashua Minor League city championship was decided last night in a game that saw the North League Angels outlast the South League Braves, 12-11.

“Timely hitting by Hank Parkinson, Mark Lapinskas and Matt Doucet proved to be the key factors in the game.”

AUG. 1, 1981: “Top New Hampshire golfers Jay Leonard of Nashua and Phil Pleat of Manchester combined for a 67 to sit four strokes back of the lead in the qualifying round of the seventh annual Tommy Keane Invitational Golf Tournament at Hanover Country Club on Friday.

“… Another Nashuan, Everett Crosscup, who is paired with Mark Melendy of Hanover, is also on the qualifying list with a score of 71.”

AUG. 2, 1986: “Chad LaFontaine’s role was limited, but it saved a championship for Nashua North in the New England Regional Bambino Baseball Tournament.

“Winchester, Mass., had two on and one out in the bottom of the third inning of the finals yesterday when LaFontaine came in to relieve Jayson Miller. LaFontaine halted the threat by striking out two batters and Miller returned to the mound in the fourth to complete the 4-0 win.”

AUG. 3, 1991: “The burden of expectations was certainly felt by the Coffey Post 3 baseball team in their American Legion State Tournament opener against Exeter on Friday night.

“The Coffey men came in 16-0 in district play, 25-2 overall, with a portfolio brimming with impressive statistics. A good-sized crowd was on hand at Holman Stadium to see what all the fuss was about.

” … The pitching was so good it bordered on overpowering. Starter Dan Green and reliever Mike Welch combined for 15 strikeouts. … And Nashua made all the routine plays and a couple of pretty good ones in an 8-2 victory over Exeter.”

AUG. 4, 2006: “If Dana Harrity’s 13th New Hampshire Women’s Amateur golf title had a prevailing theme, it was the way she bounced back from adversity.

“It took the North Hampton golfer 49 holes to grab the outright lead in this 54-hole event. Thursday was the best round of the week, lifting her to a four-shot win over collegian Megan Mangone.

“Hollis’ Liz Friel finished the tournament in a tie for ninth place after an 85 in the final round. She was locked in with Wilton’s Chelsea Demers, a junior in high school, who shot a 78.”

AUG. 5, 2011: “Tony Johnson is back in the football coaching ranks. But he’s also still the athletic director at Bishop Guertin High School.

“Johnson, the longtime Cardinals head coach who stepped down this past spring saying he wanted to concentrate more on his administrative duties, has accepted the part-time position as Saint Anselm College outside linebackers coach.

“He confirmed a report that first appeared late Wednesday on NHFootballReport.com. Johnson told The Telegraph he will stay on as the Cardinals’ AD after consulting with Guertin officials.”
