FEB. 20, 1956: “Two Nashuans, Johnny Joyce, middleweight, and Burleigh Briggs Jr., heavyweight, were crowned New Hampshire Golden Gloves champions and they will appear in the New England finals at Lowell, Mass.

“Briggs won the state title without having to don a glove, having drawn several byes, while Joyce captured the 160-pound crown by beating Al Boulay of Manchester in a hard-fought bout Saturday evening in the Queen City.”

FEB. 21, 1966: “Nashua High remains undefeated in track today after a strong 58-19 victory over Concord on Saturday afternoon. With an 8-0 record this season, the Nashuans will compete in the state meet this Saturday.

“… Leading the Purple team Saturday were Bill Foucher and Dave Biron. Foucher garnered firsts in the 50-yard dash 45-yard dash, 45-yard high hurdles and high jump. Biron posted a 34.2 in the 300, his fastest time this season.”

FEB. 22, 1991: “The sun has set on another Merrimack High School girls basketball season, and the problem that plagued the Tomahawks all winter long wouldn’t go away for their last game, either.

“The Tomahawks’ lack of height hurt them Thursday night as they finished the season at 5-13 with a 51-43 loss to Concord.

“… Beth Lapaglia led the ‘Hawks with nine points while Katie Kenney had eight.”

FEB. 23, 2001: “In a double-overtime thriller, Mike Sullivan, Brian Greenman and Andy Rosenwinkel scored 10 points apiece for the Hollis-Brookline Cavaliers as they upset No. 6 Epping, 49-46, to reach the quarterfinals.

” ‘It was just a phenomenal basketball game,’ HB coach Bill Sullivan said. ‘Sportsmanship and everything … it was a credit to high school basketball.’ ”

FEB. 24, 2006: “No. 8 Inter-Lakes High School (12-7) defeated No. 9 Campbell 59-55 in the preliminary round of the Class M girls basketball tournament Thursday in Meredith.

“Kelsy LaRose and Daphne Valentino both scored 15 points for the Cougars while Jess Floyd added eight.

“Campbell finishes the season 11-8.”

FEB. 25, 2011: “Anthony Muccioli drained four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 24 points and Nashua South pulled away to beat Timberlane, 64-51.

“Kevin Morrissey chipped in with 11 points for South while teammates Bobby Cordaro and Jordy Tavarez added nine each.”

FEB. 26, 1951: “Forward Fuzzy Fagnant is the individual high scorer of the Nashua High School basketball squad currently prepping for its Class A tournament opening-round game with Concord on Thursday afternoon in Durham.”

“Scoring specialist for the `Marandos-tutored quintet, Fagnant compiled a 213-point scoring total for the 17-game season for a 12.6 average.”
