Expect Brady Watch to continue after NFL Divisional round

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Jan 15, 2021

The Brady Watch 2021.

It’s a bit different from the Brady Watch of 2020. That one was basically whether he would stay with the New England Patriots or not. And if not, where he would end up.

And now that we know he’s with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this year’s BW is how far will he go in the playoffs?

We say pretty far.

“Really, it’s not going to be if we don’t put rings on our fingers because once you’re in the tournament, that’s what you’re playing for,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians said. “We did enough to get here and it will not be satisfying unless we finish it.”

They very well could. Yes, the Bucs had an easy one last week with Washington, but had to face a good defense. All Brady did was throw for well over 300 yards and remind Patriots fans of what they were missing this season.

That’s why all eyes will be on the Bucs-Saints Sunday evening (6:40 start, good move) as the NFL Divisional Weekend arrives. It used to be known as the best weekend of the season, but it’s been beaten out by Super Wild Card Weekend (six games).

But we’ll still enjoy this weekend’s games. Here’s our choices:

SATURDAY

PACKERS 23, RAMS 13

This is quite the season for Aaron Rodgers, the odds-on favorite for NFL MVP. The other Aaron, Rams sackmaster Darnold, will be limited by his ribs injury, no matter what he says. And L.A.is forced to stick with Jared Goff at QB. This Rams team is no match point wise. These aren’t the offensively challenged Seahawks they’re facing now.

BILLS 34, RAVENS 30

Best game of the weekend as we watch Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson run wild and Buffalo’s Josh Allen run and throw wild. We think he’ll do a better job of throwing the football than Jackson will, thus the Bills should punch their ticket to the AFC title game. But it won’t be easy.

SUNDAY

CHIEFS 33, BROWNS 16

Knew we should’ve stuck with the Browns last week instead of those lame Steelers. But the team Cleveland is facing this weekend is far from lame. It’ll be interesting how long it takes Pat Mahomes & Co. to shake the rust off after the bye, but it shouldn’t take long. If Ben Roethlisberger can throw for 500 yards against Cleveland, what can Mahomes do?

BUCS 27, SAINTS 20

Can you see the Gronk Spike in the end zone? We can. Drew Brees did not look good against Da Bears last weekend even in victory. Here’s the deal: Brady looks sharp, has great receivers, and should put up a lot of points. Plus there’s that old addage of how tough it is to beat a team three times.

Brady wins Round 3, and we get Brady-Rodgers in the NFC Championship Game. Wowsers.

LAST WEEK: 4-2

PLAYOFFS: 4-2

REGULAR SEASON: 80-38
