Patriot fans had to be seeing Tompa Red on Saturday

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Dec 27, 2020

Did you all enjoy seeing Tom Brady lead Tompa Bay into the playoffs on Saturday?

Slinging it all over the field, including four TD passes. Did you like the ones to Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown?

It’s got to be gut wrenching for Patriot fans, seeing arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history, certainly franchise history, tossing deep balls all over the place.

Especially when Brady had four TD tosses in one half and the guy Patriots coach Bill Belichick often acts like a jerk standing behind, Cam Newton, has five TD passes all season. What, is he mesmerized by the all the different hats?

It’s really almost unfathomable. When Brady said see ya in March, you figured Belichick had a plan. You figured that perhaps Jarrett Stidham was wowing them somewhere, somehow, out of plain sight to everyone else. Something.

Instead they signed Newton and it looked good early because of his running ability and then it became obvious he can’t throw the football effectively.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was asked whether or not he would like to see more of Stidham in a game.

“That’s coach’s decision,” McDaniels said. ‘I’ve seen plenty of Jarrett in practice, I’ve seen him for two years. I’m confident I understand where Jarrett is in his development.”

Translation: Stidham isn’t in the plan. At least that we know of.

But Buffalo’s Josh Allen is in the Bills’ plans for years to come. We’ll see why on Monday night, but will it mean a New England loss? Let’s take a look:

PATRIOTS 24, BILLS 21

Oh we are out on a limb here. This is unchartered waters for the Patriots, so how will they handle it? Will the Bills have a division title hangover, forgetting they can vie for the No. 2 seed so they at least get home field in the first two rounds? We say yes.

JETS 17, BROWNS 14

What, you say? Well, the Browns have a COVID issue, and their top four receivers, including Jarvis Landry will be unavailable. The Jets may not be flying high, but hey, momentum is a strange thing.

COLTS 27, STEELERS 17

Age before any beauty with these two QBs .What’s happening with Pittsburgh is getting ridiculous. They could go out losing five straight heading into the playoffs, as they, too have a QB who can’t throw more than 20 yards in Big Ben Roethlisberger. He can’t even run a QB sneak. Philip Rivers is loving playing for Frank Reich. Colts are looking good.

SEAHAWKS 23, RAMS 17

The Rams were looking great against the Patriots, right? But then they couldn’t beat the Jets, so how are they going to beat Russell Wilson in a rematch? Should be a good one, though.

PANTHERS 19, WASHINGTON 17

Dwayne Haskins is a moron and Washington coach Ron Rivera is playing him only because there’s no one else. The Panthers aren’t good, but Haskins will gift them two scores to make a difference and help lessen the impact of the havoc the Washington Chase Young-led pass rush will certainly cause.

RAVENS 27, GIANTS 10

Daniel Jones will likely be back for the G-Men. Too bad, as the guess is he still can’t run full speed. The Giants defense will have a tough time trying to chase Lamar Jackson all over the field.

TITANS 30, PACKERS 27

Derrick Henry, Derrick Henry and more Derrick Henry. If Tennessee can do that successfully, that will chew up the clock and limit Aaron Rodgers’ chances. Tennessee seems to be able to win big games on the road, right Pats fans?

LAST WEEK: 5-2

SEASON RECORD: 70-34
