JUNE 19, 1945 – “Playing good golf all the way, Walter Fergnani and Romeo Dion teamed up to win the Governor’s Cup finals at the Nashua Country Club. They defeated the team of Dr. Robert Maxwell and A.D. Barnes, who for the second time in a row finish in the runners-up spot.

“In 1944 they were defeated by Harry Shaw and Howard Allen.”

JUNE 19, 1955 – “Paul Bellavance, a member of the Nashua High School graduating class and a three-letter man in basketball, baseball and football, was named the school’s Athlete of the Year for 1955. Presenting the award was principal Edmund Keefe. On hand for the ceremony were football and baseball coach Charles Harvey and basketball coach Tony Marandos.”

JUNE 19, 1965 – “The Spring St. Junior High Raiders beat their inter-city rivals, the Fairgrounds Junior High Falcons, 4-0, at Holman Stadium yesterday afternoon.

“Bob Boudreau paced the Raiders with a brilliant three-hit shutout. He struck out five and walked four.

“The Raiders first scored in the second inning when Dave Foran slammed a bases-loaded single to drive home two runs. Spring St. went ahead 4-0 in the third on a walk, a single by Gary Lewis and two errors. This was all hurler Boudreau needed to take command.”

JUNE 19, 1975 – “The Nashua Dodgers took over first place in the Eastern Mass. League last night by shutting out Lowell 3-0 behind the masterful no-hit pitching of ace Jim Dobens. Dobens turned in a superb performance in the contest but got plenty of help behind him as the Dodger infield reeled off two double plays and sparkled on many other occasions to assure the no-hitter.”

JUNE 19, 1985 – “If the face looks familiar and you just know you’ve heard the name before, it’s only because Cathy Burbee seems to be the kind of athlete capable of grabbing your attention and holding it, regardless of the sport.

“Last fall you may have seen Burbee on the soccer field, leading the Milford AREA Senior High School girls squad to a state tournament berth, scoring seven goals with four assists. During the winter, she was a standout on the Spartan basketball squad … And this spring, Burbee finished out her high school sports career, living up to her reputation as one of the top softball players in the state.

“Burbee has been named the All-Area Player of the year, the second time she has received that honor.”

JUNE 19, 2016 – “Summer baseball is about individuals putting in the time, honing their craft, working on their game. Getting better.

“Roy Santiago shattered that mold shortly after he and the Nashua Chiefs held off the Souhegan Valley Mutts, 4-3, on opening night in the New England Independent (19-under) Baseball League.

“We want to win a championship,” said the Nashua South senior-to-be, plain and simple.”
