MAY 23, 1960 – “Nashua’s Dr. Danny Murphy and John Hutchinson collaborated with a best ball of 68 to win the state four-ball golf tournament played at Nashua Country Club yesterday.

“The team was one stroke better than Dr. Robert Elliott and Joe Grzwacz of Manchester, who copped runner-up honors.”

MAY 23, 1965 – “The Purple Panthers of Nashua High, fighting for a berth in the state tournament, won their third consecutive game by defeating Portsmouth High in a big upset. Starting pitcher for Nashua was Dick Ledoux and he was relieved by Mike Pakinski.”

MAY 23, 1975 – “George ‘Birdie’ Tebbetts, native Nashuan who was star catcher for the Boston Red Sox and manager of several American and National League teams for many years, was in Nashua recently visiting his family and friends.

“Tebbetts is now a scout for the New York Yankees. He had been associated as a scout with the New York Mets of the National League for about eight years prior to moving to the Yanks.”

MAY 23, 1980 – “Diane Hatch of Milford has enjoyed another solid year for the University of Michigan’s varsity softball team.

“After starting at third base last season as a freshman, Hatch was moved to shortstop this spring and she hit .358 for a club that finished 16-11.”

MAY 23, 2017 – “Campbell baseball remained undefeated at 14-0 with a 4-2 win over Mascenic. Pitcher Matt Gagne went 4-1/3 innings, striking out six and walking none, while Keegan Mills paced the offense with a three-run home run in the fifth inning that broke a scoreless tie.”
