Nashua 12U All Stars take first tourney loss
FREETOWN, Conn.– As much as Nashua’s previous game was played in blustery, rainy conditions, Monday afternoon’s contest against Easton, Mass., was hot and humid.
What a difference a day makes. Easton won Monday’s contest, 12-2.
The game started off well enough for Nashua as Garrett Schmidt pitched a scoreless first inning, while Nashua’s Aaron Ackerman scored on a single from Gavin Whigham giving Nashua what would be its only lead of the game.
Sometimes in sports, the opponent just has one of those games and is unstoppable. The second inning saw Easton score six runs on six hits.
The fourth inning saw a similar result when the Easton bats got as hot as the weather again, adding six more runs to their lead.
Nashua added a run in the bottom of the fourth as Justin Sanossian singled to drive in Gates Kelly to bring the final score to 12-2.
Kelly was awarded player of the game batting 1 for 2 and scoring a run in the shortened four-inning game.
While it was not the outing Nashua was hoping for, Nashua’s 2-1 record in pool play qualifies them to move forward in the next round of the tournament.
They will face the Maine state champions from Andy Valley on Tuesday evening under the lights, testing their resilience to advance to the semi-final round.
