Elks Hoop Shoot winners prep for state contest

The 2021 Nashua Lodge of Elks Hoop Shoot competition was held recently with the following winners and runners-up:

Age 8-9 Girls Winner: Bela Girouard

Age 12-13 Girls Winner: Max Walsh.

Runner-up: Lexi McGuire

Age 8-9 Boys Winner: Lucas Rousseau.

Runner-up: Noah Snyder

Age 10-11 Boys Winner: Owen Bennett.

Runner-up: Brady O’Neil

Age 12-13 Boys Winner: Owen Forcier.

Runner-up: Linc Vanderhorst, Jr.

All top five finishers will now move up to compete at the Elks Hoop Shoot District level contest on Jan. 8 in Portsmouth at The Community Campus.

The Nashua Lodge of Elks 50th Annual Hoop Shoot struck a historic tone with the special appearance of 2006 Elks Hoop Shoot National Champion and Alvirne alum, Caleb Donnelly, as well as 1976 Elks Hoop Shoot national finalist Steve Piwowarski.

WRESTLING

MYA Wrestlers Compete

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program competed recently in the first NHWAY Round Robin Rumble at Goffstown High School with Merrimack taking home seven medals. The top five in each respective bracket were awarded medals.

Seven MYA wrestlers competed with results as follows:

Second grader Daxton Solivan won his first match by points to finish third on the day.

Matthew Snavely and Bennett Meehan represented the third grade cohort with Meehan taking home second place and Snavely the fourth-place medal.

Fifth graders Sara Snavely and Cash Torres took home fifth and fourth place. Torres had one win by pin and a couple of narrow losses by points.

Rhys Dewar, grade 7, pinned his way to first place as did 8th grader Jackson Meehan.
