Kids Sports for April 17-18

The Merrimack Valley Prospects youth baseball program, with several locals, has opened its season. Here are some recent results:

9U PROSPECTS 4,

NH BLACKFLIES 1

Pitching and defense ruled as Max Canaway went four innings striking out six while Niklas Lundvall closed the door striking out four.

Great defense from Cooper Pare, Luke Graven, and Leo Desfosses. William Ricci’s delayed steal of home got the offense rolling late in the game.

9U PROSPECTS 10,

NH BLACKFLIES 6

There were big days at the plate from Bryan Ciardelli (2 for 3, double), Luke Graven (2 for 4), William Ricci (3 for 6 with two long doubles), Max Canaway (2 for 4, three RBIs), Seth Helming (single), Leo Desfosses ( two hits), Landon Cora (single), Karthik Ramesh (two RBIs), Niklas Lundvall (single, two runs), and Connor Ricker (RBI, stolen base).

11U PROSPECTS ROYAL 9,

NORTHEAST WILDCATS 2

Lukas Lundvall started going two innings allowing no runs, and striking out five, and also powered the offense going 6 for 6 with two doubles at the plate.

Shea Mercier and Nate Snider both pitched one scoreless inning each to keep the Wildcats bats cool. Jack Parisi, Jake Wilson, Ricky Nunez, Nate Snider, and Ian McCubrey all hit doubles to drive in runners on base.

11U PROSPECTS ROYAL 12,

NORTHEAST WILDCATS 4

Joe Moniz pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five.

12U PROSPECTS ROYAL 19,

JR. SWAMP BATS 1

Patrick Casey hit a line drive laster to the fence, and with other solid hits the Prospects were up 16-0 by the second inning. Pitcher Ben George didn’t allow an earned run.

12U PROSPECTS ROYAL 6,

Matt Nowak, Keenan Myers, Thomas Howie played well defensively.

In a tight 1-0 game in the fourth inning, Jack Fiengo ripped a double scoring Matt MacDonald all the way from first base. Key offensive plays by Austin Steinruck and Quinn Imbrognu to build insurance runs late. Matt MacDonald had a deep start pitching and Robert Theriault got the save.

12U PROSPECTS BLACK 18,

ABC MARINERS 0

Owen Forcier set the tone and was brilliant on the mound, going three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out nine and walking one.

The bats would come alive in the second inning, scoring seven runs, led by a RBI double to left field by Johnny Graven to start the scoring.

The Prospects secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the third inning. Brooke Berger, Blake Paquette, Owen Varley, Cam Flanders, Forcier and Zander Kalloger each had RBIs. Flanders and Varley each collected multiple hits on the day while Andrew Thibeault and Zach Jones each added a hit and two runs scored.

12U PROSPECTS BLACK 14,

ABC MARINERS 4

Offensive leaders included Owen Forcier (single, double, four RBIs), Zander Kalloger (RBI double), Cam Flanders, Jack Ninteau and Zach Jones (each added a hit and multiple runs scored), Cooper Vaillancourt and Blake Paquette (RBI and run scored each).

Others included Owen Varley and Andrew Thibeault (multiple stolen bases, including Thibeault stealing home in the third inning).

Johnny Graven, Brooke Berger and Ninteau played well defensively, while on the mound Flanders went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out five and walking one. Jones threw one inning in relief, allowing two unearned runs on zero hits.

BULLETIN BOARD

RUNNING SERIES IN MAY

Healthy Kids Running Series, a five week running program sponsored by St. Joseph Hospital that will be held locally in the spring and fall for youths ages 2-14, will take place on Sundays at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Park in Nashua.

The spring program begins May 16 and runs through June 20

This spring the program has have added a high school division. The program offers age appropriate running events including the 50 yard dash, 75 yard dash, quarter mile, half mile, one mile, and this year the two mile.

Kids compete each week for a chance to earn points. At the end of week five, the runners with the most points will receive trophies. All participants receive a medal, a shirt, and race bibs.
