Kids Sports for Aug. 16

NASHUA CAL RIPKEN – The Nashua Cal Ripken season is underway, set to extend through August and September. Here are the results after the first week-plus of play:

MAJORS

ATHLETICS 6

PHILLIES 5

Andrew Croteau and Owen Forcier combined for a one- hitter to open the season. The A’s offense was led by Ryan Caruso (2 for 3, RBI, one run) and Cameron Hayes (1 for 2, two RBIs). For the Phillies, Brooke Berger pitched 4four solid innings, and Ryan DuVarney had the only hit.

WHITE SOX 11

ROYALS 9

The Sox got five runs in the fifth, keyed by Adam Garcia’s two-run hit to take a lead. The Royals, though, didn’t give up and tied the game with hits from Zander Kalloger and Ian McCubrey. In the sixth Cam Flanders hit in Andrew Thibeault to and also pitched a great sixth. Bray Ouellet got the win on the mound.

RED SOX 9

GIANTS 4

Josh Alvarez had three hits and scored four runs, Jacoby Caissie was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Taylor Joyal had three RBIs and pitched four innings for the win. He gave up one earned run with five strikeouts to lead the Sox.

Kelvin Agyeman made a running catch in right field to end a Giants rally.

RED SOX 13

ATHLETICS 4

A.J. Holmes, Sam Woodward and Michael Witkowski combined on a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts.

Josh Alvarez (two doubles), Taylor Joyal, Sam Levine, Daymien Roy and Kelvin Agyeman led a 12-hit attack for the Red Sox.

Dom Coffie pitched well in relief for the A’s.

WHITE SOX 8

GIANTS 7

Nolan Sullivan and Jake Daley were locked in a pitching duel early but the bats woke up late. Zach Jones and Logan Beausoleil knocked in big runs and Chance Luna made a great late innings catch to win it for the White Sox.

Jack Ninteau provided the offensive spark for the Giants with a double.

AAA

DIAMONDBACKS 4

ANGELS 1

The Diamondbacks were led by Gates Kelly, who pitched four innings of no-hit baseball and struck out 11.

Elias Gonzalez came in relief and threw two innings, striking out five. The Diamondbacks offense was led by Miles Demers, who racked up two hits.

ROCKIES 10

NATIONALS 0

Marcus Conti, William Osborn and Brady Wessel combined for 12 strikeouts in four innings for the winners.

Paul DeVito hit a two-run single and Brady Wessel hit an RBI single and another RBI triple.

Phil Louis started for the Nationals and Dylan Gilmartin followed him on the bump. Zack Henderson had two strong at bats.

ROCKIES 12

TIGERS 10

Brady Wessel, Will Osborn and Marcus Conti pitched well for the Rockies while. Chris Labrecque had a huge two-run double.

Avian Garcia pitched two solid innings for the Tigers. Jesse Sackolarios smashed a line drive to left field that went all the way to the wall and for a grand slam home run.

MERRIMACK VALLEY

PROSPECTS PLAYOFFS

The Prospects won all four of their playoff games, outscoring opponents by an impressive 42-3.

They advanced to the EBL NH semi-finals and were scheduled to host games this weekend at Lajoie Field.

10U PROSPECTS 11-10

NE CHARGE 3-0

Prospects pitching limited the Charge to three runs over two games.

Max Demers pitched Game 1 striking out 10 before handing the ball over to Jace Dillon to close things out.

Connor Gryniewicz and Jordan Morelli combined to shut out the Charge in Game 2. Bats for the Prospects were hot up and down the line up on Saturday getting contributions from several players in both games.

10U PROSPECTS 10-11

NE WILDCATS 0-1

In game 1 Connor Gryniewicz pitched a spectacular four-inning perfect game with 10 strikeouts.

The offense for the Prospects came from the entire team, notably back-to-back triples from Max Demers and Matthew Bergin in the second inning.

In Game 2,Jordan Morelli allowed just one hit on a comebacker to the mound that he knocked down. Marcus Conti had two hits in the game extending Prospects rallies.

BULLETIN BOARD

HUDSON POST 48 TRYOUTS

Hudson Post 48 will be having tryouts for their 2021 season on Tuesday August 18 and Wednesday August 19 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Alvirne High School.

The tryouts will be for a prep team (13-15), junior team (17 and under) and its senior team (19 and under).
