Nashua’s Max Demers tossed a no-hitter for the Merrimack Valley Prospects to highlight this week’s results.

Several other locals also had a great week:

10U PROSPECTS 6

CONCORD CANNONS 0

Max Demers pitched a complete game no hitter as he was hot from the start, finishing with 11 strikeouts. He struck out the side in the first and again in the fifth inning, and did not walk a single batter on the day.

Jordan Morelli helped preserve the no hit effort by making a smooth bare-handed play at third base in the fourth inning. The game was close until the fifth inning when Prospects bats came alive with a RBI singles from Matthew Howie (run scored) and Matthew Bergin (2 for 3, RBI, run). Jordyn Rodriguez (1 for 2, one run) would join the party with a double and be knocked in by a double from Ryan Caruso.

10U PROSPECTS 7,

CONCORD CANNONS 5

The locals scored two in the sixth to snap a tie and held on for the win.

The Prospects, who led 2-0 in the first, began the sixth with a Rodriguez single and he would go on to score on a bloop single by Brayden Ouellet. The Prospects would also add an insurance run by Jace Dillon on a Marcus Conti sacrifice. Matthew Howie started the game for MV, striking out nine over four innings before Dillon answered the call from the bullpen.

The 10U Prospects finished the 2020 regular season with a 12-2 record and were slated to take on the NE Charge out of Hudson this weekend in the playoffs as the No. 2 seed.

15U PROSPECTS 6

NE WILDCATS 3

Hunter Ward (three innings, three strikeouts) and Nick Shaw (four innings, three strikeouts) combined for the win on the mound.

Chipping in on offense was Dante Nieto (2 for 4, two RBIs), Sam Murray (1 for 2, two RBIs) along with Ward, Kenny Reel, and Colin Toohey adding hits.

9U PROSPECTS 5

NE CHARGE 4

In game one of a doubleheader against the Charge, the Prospects fought till the end mounting a rally in the top of the sixth that culminated in a two out two run base-hit by Braden Maier of Amherst.

In the bottom of the inning, Maier took the mount to complete his second complete game victory of the year. Wes Steinruck, also of Amherst, made a tremendous play in right field to keep the Prospects ahead.

Throughout the game, Tyler Hartson (Amherst) made both routine and difficult plays at short. Sam Fondakowski (Nashua) worked hard behind the plate and good defense was turned in all around including outstanding plays from Elias Gonzalez (Nashua) and Ben Sterner (Nashua).

The 9U’s were scheduled to play cross-town rivals the NH Crush and the NH Bobcats from Manchester in a round robin playoff.

12U PROSPECTS ROYAL 11

NEW ENGAND RAVENS 5

In the extended contest, Austin Steinruck, battling blisters on both heels, unleashed a laser-show ripping in multiple RBIs with a multi-hit game. Ryan Martin continued to own the mound deep into the game controlling the defense. Ryan Mainey finished Martin’s work with a number of clutch pitches and individual defensive plays.

The Ravens battled hard and eventually gave up a late five-run Prospects rally The 12U Royal team heads to the playoffs with a Gate City showdown vs. 12U Black this weekend.

CAL RIPKEN

MAJORS

Athletics 6, Phillies 5

Andrew Croteau and Owen Forcier combined for a 1 hitter as the A’s topped the Phillies 5 to 4 to open the season. The A’s offense was led by Ryan Caruso (2-3, RBI, 1 Run) and Cameron Hayes (1-2, 2 RBI). For the Phillies, Brooke Berger pitched 4 solid innings, and Ryan DuVarney had the only hit.

White Sox 11, Royals 9

The Sox got 5 runs in the 5th, Adam Garcia hit in 2 to take the lead. The Royals didn’t give up and tied the game with hits from Zander Kalloger and Ian McCubrey. In the 6th Cam Flanders hit in Andrew Thibeault to take the lead. He also pitched a great 6th. Bray Ouellet got the win

Red Sox 9, Giants 4

Josh Alvarez had 3 hits and scored 4 runs, Jacoby Caissie was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, while Taylor Joyal had 3 RBI and pitched 4 innings for the win, giving up 1 earned run with 5 Ks to lead the Sox. Kelvin Agyeman made a running catch in RF to end a Giants rally.

AAA

Diamondbacks 4, Angels 1

The Diamondbacks were led by Gates Kelly, who pitched four innings of no hit baseball and struck out 11 batters. He also threw an immaculate inning. Elias Gonzalez came in relief and threw two innings, striking out five. The offense was led by Miles Demers, who racked up two hits.

Rockies 10, Nationals 0

Marcus Conti, William Osborn and Brady Wessel combined for 12 strikeouts in 4 innings. Paul DeVito hit a 2 RBI single and Brady Wessel hit a RBI single and another RBI triple. Phil Louis started for the Nationals and Dylan Gilmartin followed him on the bump. Zack Henderson had 2 strong at bats.

11U and 12U – August 8, 4 p.m.at Dube Field.

13U and 14U – August 11, 6 p.m. at Ledge St. Field; August 15, 4 p.m. at Ledge St. Field.
