Nashua’s Fairgrounds Middle School baseball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Litchfield. Isaiah Hedquest pitched four shutout innings allowing no runs one hit and striking out five.

Leo Kopicko came in to pitch the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up just a single hit and escaping a bases loaded jam thanks to a nice defensive play by Alex Thibeault in right field.

Doubles by Jordyn Raisanen and Kopicko, and hits by Sean Sullivan and Ryan Haskell paced the offense. Fairgrounds pieced together a single run in each of the first four innings but left the bases loaded in three of those innings.

In the fifth, Litchfield put together a rally to push across two runs to close the gap to 4-2. That was as close as it would get and Fairgrounds put an insurance run in the board in the seventh.

Earlier, Fairgrounds opened the season with a 5-0 win over Hollis Brookline. Brandon Metivier pitched seven scoreless innings giving up just two hits while walking one and striking out 10. Fairgrounds started the scoring in the third when a couple of walks set the stage for back to back RBI singles by Haskell and Metivier.

Hollis loaded the bases in the sixth on a walk and two errors with nobody out but a pair of strikeouts and a fly ball ended the threat. Fairgrounds put the game away in their half of the sixth on a double by Kopicko a couple walks and an RBI single by Thibeault to finish the scoring.
