Elks Hoop Shoot just around the corner

By Staff | Nov 20, 2016

The annual Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest will be held at 8 a.m. Dec. 3 in the Elm Street Middle School Gym in Nashua.

The contest is open to all area boys and girls ages 8-13 (April 1, 2017 designates age).

Categories (age divisions) are 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13 for both boys and girls. Competitiors should wear sneakers or tennis shoes; shorts or basketball uniforms are preferred, but optional.

Each youth shoots 25 free throws for a score. Local winners will advance to the South District shoot-off, and then winners of the South District will advance to the state finals.

State winners will go to the New England Regionals and winners there advance to the Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals.

The Nashua area has sent 11 youths to the nationals, with Hudson’s Caleb Donnelly winning the national title 11 years ago.

Donnelly, along with other national winners, has his named inscribed in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

For more information, contact Elks Youth Chairman Al Savage at 888-0064.
