Nashua 15 year olds in Babe Ruth state tourney

The Nashua 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team swept through the District Pool A bracket with a 7-4 win over Goffstown, securing a district title and a spot in the state tournament in Goffstown.

Goffstown led 3-1 early, but the Nashua bats came to life in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on six hits to take a commanding 7-3 lead.

Nashua pitcher Cam Nixon went six innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out five.

Nashua’s Jack Gauthier closed it out with a scoreless seventh, allowing just one hit with one strikeout.

Goffstown pitchers combined to give up 12 Nashua hits and three walks while striking out three.

Gauthier (two singles), Jacob Hughes (two singles) and Seth Marcano (double and single) led Nashua’s offense. Other Nashua singles came from Nixon, Joe Berman, Spencer Dozois, Tim McMeniman and Trevor Kelly.

Nashua finished the tournament 4-0.

Babe Ruth

Merrimack 10U wins state title

For the second straight year the Merrimack Magic 10U Babe Ruth girls softball team will be heading to the New England Regionals. This time as state champions.

Hannah Dunn and Alexis Martineau combined to surrender only two runs in the Magic’s 3-2 win in the championship game over the Londonderry Lightning.

Avery Hui tripled in the go-ahead run and Natalia Gonzalez followed with a double to put the Magic ahead for good in the top of the sixth. Gwen Morales made the defensive play of the game, catching a fly ball for the third out of the fourth inning with runners on second and third.

Also, Bonnie Monte played solid at first base, making multiple plays throughout the day.

Competition

Gate City skaters strong in Vt.

Local youth skaters representing the Gate City Figure Skating Club recently competed in the Champlain Valley Open Figure Skating Competition in Burlington, Vt.

Kiley McNeil, earned gold and silver medals in the Ladies Intermediate and Intermediate/Juvenile Showcase.

Maggie Fitzgerald, a seventh grader at Presentation of Mary Academy, had an outstanding, clean program at the Pre-Preliminary Well-Balanced Level.

Basketball

HBHS Summer Camp

The 8th Hollis Brookline Skills and Drills Girls Basketball Camp will be held at the Hollis Brookline High School Gym from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Aug. 1-5.

Girls from Hollis and Brookline entering grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 are eligible to attend. The camp will be run by HB coaches Bob Murphy and Tara Goldenberg, and several of last year’s varsity players.

The camp will include individual skills, group drills, contests and team games. Cost for the week is $70 per camper. A certified trainer will be present.

Application forms, health and waiver forms and a copy of a recent physical will be required.

Milford Camp

The Milford High School fundraising basketball camp’s second session will be held for youths ages 7-16 from July 25-29 at Milford Middle School.

It will be 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Friday. For cost and further details, call 672-7140.

Nashua tryouts set

Nashua World Cup Soccer will be holding tryouts this month for its upcoming 2016-17 season.

Clinics

Nashua Park-Rec. offerings

The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department will be running several free softball clinics this spring, with focus on fielding/hitting, and pitching/catching.

The clinics are open to any Nashua girls ages 7-15 and all clinics are free of charge.

The clinics will use a multiple station format, keeping the girls in constant motion, and will work drills for both novice and advanced skill levels.

Contact the Nashua Park-Rec office for future clinic dates.

Tryouts

NH Mystics 14U, 16U in August

The NH Mystics Junior Olympic ASA Softball program will hold tryouts for 14U and 16U teams at Windham High School Aug. 1-2 for 14U and Aug. 2-3 for 16U.

Registration will open at 5:30 p.m. and tryouts will run from 6-8.

Mini Mite travel programs

The Southern New Hamspshire Cavaliers will have a Mini Mite limited travel hockey program for boys and girls ages 5-8 years old. There are two 12-week sessions, or youths may register for the full year.

Summer Program

Granite State Kids registration

Granite State Kids summer junior tennis program is currently underway.

It provides tennis instruction and match play for youths ages 5-18, for all levels, beginner through competition at County Road Courts in Bedford.

Beginner play is scheduled on Monday and Wednesday mornings. Intermediate practice is Tuesday morning with match play on Thursday.

The season continues through Aug. 4 and closes with a Tennis Carnival and NH JTT State Tournament.
