WESTFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield, Mass., put on a hitting clinic that ultimate­ly turned into the elimina­tion of Nashua’s 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team from the Regionals on Sun­day night.

Pittsfield roughed up Nashua pitchers for 11 hits over seven innings in an 11-2 win for the Massachu­setts state champs at West­field’s Bullen Field.

Nashua put the ball in play regularly, only suc­cumbing to strikeouts twice in the course of the game. But keeping the hit balls away from the Pittsfield fielders proved impossible until the fourth inning when Zach Finkelstein’s single broke up the opposition’s no-hitter.

In the fifth, Trevor Kelly singled and Cam Nixon walked behind him. They would be driven in by a Tony Gallinaro RBI single and a productive RBI out by Hunter Routhier. Hits that Nashua failed to push across the plate later in the game came from Alex George, Tim McMeniman, Nixon and Gallinaro.

Tyler Retkevicz, Routh­ier, Kelly and Spencer Dozois all took the hill for Nashua. Each was stung at least once by Pittsfield’s of­fense.

Portland, Maine; West­field, Mass.; Cranston, R.I.; and Pittsfield, Mass., all still remain in contention for the August berth to the Babe Ruth World Series in Pine Bluff, Ark.
