Josh Lentz went 3 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs, while pitcher Spencer Champagne tossed five innings of one-hit shutout ball, walking one. Jeff Lugo had the Cards’ lone hit.

Athletics 3

Alex Meesig pitched a complete game for the D-Backs striking out five, while Gavin Belesca had an insurance home run.

Giants 7, Red Sox 3

River Hart made a big defensive stop for the Giants at third while Pete Bauer had a couple of key hits. Patrick Melanson ignited a Sox rally with a hit and scored a run.

Royals 17, Angels 8

Anthony Infante, Ryan Ovalle, Brian Chisolm, and Brandon Ouellete had multiple hits for the Royals. Quinton Bolton pitched well and had a big hit for the Angels.

Cardinals 9, Royals 1

Brandon Metivier got the complete game win on the mound, allowing just seven hits while walking one. The .Cards had multiple hit games from Leo Kopico, Drew Frost, and Nick Gosselin. Singles by Jimmy Reel, Owen Kelly, and Anthony Infante produced the Royals’ lone run.

TRIPLE A

Tigers 12, Orioles 11

Connor Kochanek got a hit to bring in the winning run for the Tigers, who also got big hits from Trent Gerlowski and Bobby Canaway. Elias Bourque and T.J. Addonizio hit well for the O’s.

Rangers 14, Giants 6

Ryan Bourgeois (3-3) led the Ranger attack, while Chase Devins pitched well for the Giants, allowing one run on two hits over two innings.

Nationals 14, Rockies 6

For the Nationals, Kaden Ellis drove in three with a bases loaded triple whileShea Patno and Ryan Jolicoeur doubled. Nick Dahl had a three-run triple for the Rockies.

Dodgers 23, Orioles 2

Alex Thibeault (homer) and Henry Grabowski (double) had three hits apiece for the winners. Will Nardone had two RBIs for the O’s.

Astros 16, Cardinals 6

Sean Lavoie and Ben Gosselin pitched well in their first appearances of the season for the Cardinals but the Astros scored 13 of their runs in the first two innings.

Dodgers 15, Athletics 5

Dalton Orino had three RBIs and Troy McLuin two for the Dodger, who got good relief pitching from Nathan Roy.Ivan Wilkie and Rafeal Lopez each had two RBIs for the A’s.

Athletics 8, Cardinals 7

Jason-Pino O’Bryant (3 for 3) hit a walk-off single to give the A’s the win. Conor Ross homered for the Cards.

Pirates 19, Tigers 9

Saul Ulloa homered twice and Gabe Rich once to pace the Bucs. Trent Gerlowski had a long triple for the Tigers.

Legion tryouts

Merrimack Legion Post 98 will sponsor tryouts for its Junior and Senior baseballs programs on Sunday, May 31 at 1 p.m. and Monday June 1 at 5:45p.m on the Merrimack High School varsity field.

Junior legion players are 17U and Senior legion players are 19U. Each team will play 18-20 games from June 10 – July 23.

Silver Knights Camp

The Nashua Silver Knights will be hosting their annual baseball camp at Holman Stadium July 13-17 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The cost is $199 per camper, open to youths ages seven to 14, although others can be considered under special circumstances.

Campers will receive a Nashua Silver Knights Summer Baseball Camp T-shirt and four reserved tickets to the Camp Day game, and campers will take part in a pre-game parade. Lunch will be served each day of the camp, and water will be provided.

NBA/NH Knights tryouts

The Nashua Baseball Academy and the New Hampshire Knights are seeking players for the summer season.

The Knights compete in the New England Independent Baseball League and the ages are from 15 to 19 as of May 1. The Knights finished second in league play in 2014 and were league champions the two years previously in ’12 and ’13.

The season runs from mid-June to August 1 and they play Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The league is a wooden bat league. Players come from surrounding towns including southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.

NH Grizzlies openings

The New Hampshire Grizzlies U14 baseball team has a few openings left for the 2015 season. Managers are not parents and all practices are at the team’s private indoor facility. For more information, email teamnhbaseball@comcast.net or call 577-1772.

Roper pitching lessons

The John Roper Pitching School, run by the former Major Leaguer and Nashua Pride hurler, has openings for private and semi-private pitching lessons. Pitching classes include pitchers fielding practice, pick off moves, covering bunts etc. There is a maximum of 10 students per class. Group pitching lessons will be a maximum of six students. cheer registration

The Hollis Brookline Jr. Cavaliers Football and Cheer Program registration is open for the 2015 season. A second onsite registration will be held at the Brookline Fire Department back room from 10 a.m to noon on Saturday June 6.

Prior to onsite registering, applicants will need to register on the NHYFSC site (nhyfcs.org), print out required forms and bring to registration.

Junior high league is
accepting new members

The Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL) is currently accepting new members for the 2015 season.

The NJHFL offers three distinct levels of football and cheerleading for those athletes in grades two through eight. The league also holds its own cheer competition that is open both to league members and non-members.

The NJHFL has 13 organizations, representing 29 teams from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Currently, over 900 players and close to 700 cheerleaders participate in the league annually. For more information or league contact info, visit the league’s website www.northeastjhfl.com.

Wrestling

Windham High Camp

The Windham High School wrestling staff will host a four-day youth wrestling camp June 22-25 from 3-6 p.m. for students entering grades K-9 (pre-K wrestlers also welcome at parent/coach discretion). Designed for all levels of experience, the camp will focus on wrestling skills as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, nutrition, and proper training methods.

Campers will receive personal tips, personal letters home, and other gifts from their counselors. Members of the Windham High School wrestling team will be on hand. UMass Lowell Clinic

The Danielle Henderson Softball Academy at UMass Lowell will hold summer clinics on July 13-15 for youths in grades three through six and July 27-29 for grades seven through 12.

Soccer

UMass Lowell Camps

UMass Lowell women’s soccer will hold two four-day summer camps.

There will be two River Hawk Soccer Academy sessions aimed at two differing age groups.The first runs from July 31 through August 3 and is open to girls age 13 and up. It will be an intense training camp that will focus on both the technical and tactical sides of the game. Those signing up for the camp will have the choice of attending as either a commuter or residential participant. The registration fee is $495 for residential players and $395 for commuter attendees. The second camp session is open to boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 12 and will be a mix of technical stations, small sided games and individual instruction.

Campers will also have supervised access to the UMass Lowell swimming pool. The registration fee is $225 for a full day session and $125 for half day attendees. Enrollment, for both camps, is limited and on a first come, first serve basis. UNH Boys Camp

The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer program will hold its residential camp Sunday, July 26 run through Thursday, July 30.

The camp is open to boys ages nine through 18 and will feature a variety of features and training programs, including specialized goalkeeper training. Current and former UNH men’s soccer players will be in attendance as camp counselors while college coaches from NCAA Divisions I, II and III will be in attendance as staff members and evaluators.

The cost for a residential camper is $595 while the cost for a day camper is $475. Included in the price are five days of soccer training and instruction, a camp t-shirt, three meals per day and on-campus housing in a UNH dormitory for those staying overnight. Field hockey

UNH hosting two camps

The University of New Hampshire field hockey program will hold a pair of four-day summer camp sessions, July 5-8 and July 9-12. Both camps are open to junior high and high school students (as of fall 2015). Each session offers overnight ($475) and commuter ($375) options, both of which consist of four days of field hockey instruction, a full evening program and three meals daily. The overnight package also includes on-campus lodging in a UNH dormitory.

Day One of camp includes afternoon (2-4 p.m.) and evening (6-8 p.m.) sessions with an optional evening play (8:30-9:30 p.m.).

Days Two and Three consist of a morning (8:30-11 a.m.), afternoon and evening session as well as the optional evening play. Day Four concludes with a morning session.

UNH offering clinics

The University of New Hampshire field hockey program’s Summer Skills and Play clinics, which are open to middle and high school athletes, are held the first three Tuesdays in June (9, 16 and 23) from 6-7:30 p.m. each session with training by members of the UNH field hockey team and coaching staff.

The competitive period of game play will expose athletes to new rules of play that have been implemented at the collegiate and club field hockey levels. The cost is $25 per session or $65 for all three sessions. Contact Ross Gorham or Claire Grogan via email to register.
