Nashua native and Medal of Honor recipient Ryan Pitts will headline the fourth annual Nashua Police Athletic League Sports Award Dinner on Friday, June 26 at Conway Arena.

Pitts was voted by the nonprofit Nashua PAL’s board of directors as its “PAL of the Year.”

The event, which runs from 6-9 p.m., will also recognize local sports journalists, PAL Athletes of the Year in football, boxing, cheerleading, cross country running, and basketball. A PAL Coach of the Year and Volunteer of the Year will also be named.

Pitts graduated from Souhegan High School joined the Army in 2003, at the age of 17.

Medically discharged from the army as a staff sergeant for wounds received in combat, he was awarded the Medal of Honor from President Obama for his heroism in the 2008 Battle of Wanat, a full-fledged attack by Taliban soldiers on a U.S. military outpost in Northeast Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and more than 20 others.

He currently resides in Nashua where he is in business development for the computer software industry.

U13 girls still undefeated

The Nashua Blast U13 girls team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 12-7 win over Lakes Region, paced by Julia Cote hat trick and early defensive stops by Bailey Morin and Madison Sewade.

The Blast capitalized on a clear from Morin to Kirsten McIntire to Sarah Signorello who hit a wide open Amelia Piercy in front of the goal for a quick 1-0 lead. Immediately after, Kaylie Keegan passed to McIntire who found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Just seven minutes into the game, Taylor Guilfoil found Kaylie Keegan up top to make it 3-0. Cote scored unassisted to make it 4-0 Nashua. Britney Pearson, who was stellar at midfield and had two assists for the day found Guilfoil for another quick goal and then Cote and McIntire scored again to make it 7-2 at the half. Lindsay Hult,(one assist) Emily Morneau and Kylie O’Brien worked hard to control the midfield and secure the loose ground balls.

The defensive wall of Morin, Liv Hlebichuk, Theresa Ellison and Olivia Kingston also played well as did

Julia Mendes and Elinor Addonizio in front of goalie Payson Mooso (eight saves).

Cote and Guilfoil got the scoring started in the second half, while Grace Bellavance scored one more and Keegan added two more goals to account for the final.

MAJORSA’s 15, Royals 15

In a wild game, the Royals jumped out to a 9-0 lead but actually trailed 15-10 before rallying in the last inning to tie the game thanks to two run doubles by Jimmy Reel and Liam Novak.

Both Reel and Novak went 3 for 3, while Novak had five RBIs. Zach Rioux and Nolan Foss homered for the A’s.

Red Sox 10, Cardinals 3

The Red Sox offense was led by four hits by Drevin Richard, two hits by Patrick Melanson and long home run by Travis Holbrook. Holbrook made those stand up with four innings of one-hit, no-walk pitching. The Cardinals offense was led by hits from Cory O’ Day, Jeffrey Lugo and Leo Kopicko.

Diamondbacks 12, Giants 4

The Diamondbacks’ Charlie Collins pitched six complete innings while striking out eight and only allowing two hits and three walks. Gavin Belesca hit two long home runs and had four RBIs. Spencer Champagne tossed four innings for the Giants and had a hit.

Cardinals 9, Red Sox 7

Ian Deluca pitched three shutout innings and Drew Frost scored three runs for the Cards. Arian Arias and Stephen Norris scored two runs and had a hit each for the Red Sox.

Athletics 7, Royals 6

Down two runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Athletics rallied on hits from Josh Lentine, Trevor Guarente, Rich Deoleo, Nate Harp and Alex Esquivel with a walkoff single.

Liam Novak (two hits, four RBIs) and Thavaray Hay (RBI double) paced the Royals.

AAARangers 7, Cardinals 1

Rangers’ starter Joey Deck struck out the first six batters he faced, earned 10 strikeouts across four solid innings and scored three of the Rangers seven runs. Conor Ross singled and scored for the Cardinals and threw out a runner stealing second.

Orioles 7, Cardinals 3

Sammy Marshall and Matt Klein led the Cards with base hits. The O’s had hits from Owen Heizer, Javari Ellison, TJ Addonizio, Caleb Hurley, Adam Picard, Connor Theodore and Danny Guarante.

Astros 15, Tigers 15

The Astros’ Jay Pecoraro had six strikeouts in his two inning on the hill while Cam Burgess contributed two clutch singles. The Tigers offense was led by Trent Gerlowski.

Pirates 8, Dodgers 7

Alex Thibeault hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the last inning to score two Dodger runs but Pirates pitcher Jared Schofield shut the door.

Dodgers 8, Giants 6

Dodger reliever Henry Grabowski shut the door after the Giants mounted a comeback scoring four in the top of the sixth capped by a Robbie Cullerton home run.Tyler Almeida led the Dodgers going 3 for 3.

Nationals 9, Orioles 9

Eddie Gaffny and TJ Addonizio led the O’s with three hits each. The Nats had hits from Ryan Jolicoeur, Liz DeRusha, Jorden Rodriguez and Chase O’Brien.

Astros 24, Rangers 13

Astro Camden Brown doubled while Jay Pecoraro and Drew Goulet each singled and scored. The Ranger offense generated 15 hits led by Ben Wheeler and Ryan Bourgeois with three apiece.

Jaxon Gendreau went 4 for 4, Ambrose Rockwell 3 for 3 and Connor Kelly 2 for 2 for the Tigers. Jack Lobdell went 3 for 3 for the Athletics

Ben Haight went 3-3 with three runs scored and Gendreau struck out 6 of the 7 batters he faced to lead the Tigers. For the Nats,Seth Brooking pitched well, reached base twice and scored a run.

Silver Knights Baseball Camp

The Nashua Silver Knights will be hosting their annual baseball camp at Holman Stadium July 13-17 from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m.

The cost is $199 per camper, open to youths ages seven to 14, although others can be considered under special circumstances.

Campers will receive a Nashua Silver Knights Summer Baseball Camp T-shirt and four reserved tickets to the Camp Day game, and campers will take part in a pre-game parade. Lunch will be served each day of the camp, and water will be provided.

NH Knights tryouts

The Nashua Baseball Academy and the New Hampshire Knights are seeking players for the summer season.

The Knights compete in the New England Independent Baseball League and the ages are from 15 to 19 as of May 1. The Knights finished second in league play in 2014 and were league champions the two years previously in ’12 and ’13. The season runs from mid-June to August 1 and they play Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The league is a wooden bat league.

John Roper pitching lessons

The John Roper Pitching School, run by the former Major Leaguer and Nashua Pride hurler, has openings for private and semi-private pitching lessons. Pitching classes include pitchers fielding practice, pick off

The Hollis Brookline Jr. Cavaliers Football and Cheer Program registration is open for the 2015 season. A second onsite registration will be held at the Brookline Fire Department back room from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. on Saturday June 6.

Jr. high league registration

The Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL) is currently accepting new members for the 2015 season.

The NJHFL offers three distinct levels of football and cheerleading for those athletes in grades two through eight. The league also holds its own cheer competition that is open both to league members and non-members.

The NJHFL has 13 organizations, representing 29 teams from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Currently, over 900 players

Windham Wrestling Camp

The Windham High School wrestling staff will host a four-day youth wrestling camp June 22-25 from 3-6 p.m. for students entering grades K-9 (pre-K wrestlers also welcome at parent/coach discretion).

Designed for all levels of experience, the camp will focus on wrestling skills as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, nutrition, and proper training methods

Campers will receive personal tips, personal letters home, and other gifts from their counselors. Members of the Windham High School wrestling team will be on hand.

The cost of camp is $100 per wrestler, and additional siblings are only $25 each.

UMass Lowell girls clinic

The UMass Lowell women’s soccer coaching staff and players will hold a one day clinic for girls in grades nine through 12 on Sunday, May 17 from noon to 4 p.m. at the turf field at the Cushing Field Complex.

The registration fee is $100 and is refundable in the case of inclement weather or if the camp is cancelled.

UNH boys camp

The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer program will hold its residential camp Sunday, July 26 run through Thursday, July 30.

The camp is open to boys ages nine through 18 and will feature a variety of features and training programs, including specialized goalkeeper training. Current and former UNH men’s soccer players will be in attendance as camp counselors while college coaches from NCAA Divisions I, II and III will be in attendance as staff members and evaluators.

The cost for a residential camper is $595 while the cost for a day camper is $475. Included in the price are five days of soccer training and instruction, a camp t-shirt, three meals per day and on-campus housing in a UNH dormitory for those staying overnight.

Field Hockey

UNH summer camps

The University of New Hampshire field hockey program will hold a pair of four-day summer camp sessions, July 5-8 and July 9-12.

Both camps are open to junior high and high school students (as of fall 2015). Each session offers overnight ($475) and commuter ($375) options, both of which consist of four days of field hockey instruction, a full evening program and three meals daily. The overnight package also includes on-campus lodging in a UNH dormitory.

Day One of camp includes afternoon (2-4 p.m.) and evening (6-8 p.m.) sessions with an optional evening play (8:30-9:30 p.m.).

Days Two and Three consist of a morning (8:30-11 a.m.), afternoon and evening session as well as the optional evening play. Day Four concludes with a morning session. UNH day clinics

The University of New Hampshire field hockey program’s Summer Skills and Play Clinics, which are open to middle and high school athletes, are held the first three Tuesdays in June (9, 16 and 23) from 6-7:30 p.m. each session with training by members of the UNH field hockey team and coaching staff.

The competitive period of game play will expose athletes to new rules of play that have been implemented at the collegiate and club field hockey levels.
