Moses preparing to compete for martial arts crowns

Hayden Moses, a 12-year-old student at World Academy in Nashua, will compete this July for several world martial arts titles.

Moses will compete for four titles July 9 and 10 in Little Rock, Ark. He’s presently ranked or seeded No. 1 or No. 2 in three out of his four categories of competition.

He has been ranked in the World Taekwondo Association Top 10 some 13 times, and is a two-time world champion.

He’s a multi-sport athlete (baseball, football) and is an All-American scholar as well as president of the World Academy student body. Moses has competed extensively in the United States in karate tournaments.

Moses trains at a martial arts school in Amherst under the instruction of six-time world champion and master nominee Bobby Roy.

He began learning martial arts at age 4 and is now a second degree black belt, looking to test for his third degree by the end of the year. Moses won his first two world championships at age 10 in 2013.

SWIMMING

Executive Swim Club results

The Executive Swim Club recently finished 10th overall in the NASA (National Age Group Swimming Association) Junior National Cup in Clearwater, Fla., which featured over 100 teams from around the U.S.

Matthew Grauslys won both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. His time of 54.59 for the metric version is a 2016 olympic trial qualifying standard, and also a New England swimming record.

He also recorded best yard times of 1:49.53 in the 200 IM, 49.69 in the 100 back, and 3:59.03 in the 400 IM.

Grant Levasseur won the 50 meter backstroke for 16-and-under in 28.19. He also swam best yard times of 51.12 in the 100 back, 1:52.43 in the 200 back and 1:55.47 in the 200 IM

Alex Bedard had two podium finishes in the 50 (30.85) and 100 (1:07.24) breaststroke events. He also added personal bests of 57.13 (100 breast), and 1:54.97 (200 IM).

Lindsey Wagner, 14, had a podium finish in the 50 meter back (30.95, fifth). Wagner was fresh off the New England age group championships a week earlier, where she won both the 50 free (23.97) and 100 back. (57.03).

Also qualifying for finals was Andrew Allen in both the 50 (23.95) and 100 (52.85)yard Butterfly events and Noelle Theodoulou in the 50 Butterfly, 100 Butterfly (26.65, 57.84), 100 and 200 Freestyles (53.13, 1:55.15).

She also swam a best time of 24.43 in the 50 freestyle. Also doing well were: Tyler Howard in the 50 butterfly (23.38), Kasey Gamache 100 breast, 1:07.63, 200 IM, 2:09.99, and 50 free 24.75), Keelin Kendall (100 breast, 1:08.36). Harvard bound Isaac Walker made the finals in the 200 breast (2:07.46).

Also swimming for the Executive were: Matthew Falcone (100 and 200 breast, 1:01.14, 2:11.75), Trent Levasseur, best time in the 100 free (49.69), Emma Wagner, Katherine Brennan (100 and 200 back), and Michael Douglas, best time in the 200 freestyle, 1:48.14).

The 400-meter Medley Relay of Levasseur, Bedard, Graulsys, and Allen finished in third place with a 3:57.40. The same quartet was fourth in the 200-yard Medley in 1:33.18.

The girls 16-and-under 400 freestyle team of Gamache, Theodoulou, Emma Wagner and Lindsey Wagner was fourth in 3:37.14.

The 16-and-under 400 medley team of Lindsey Wagner, Kendall, Theodoulou, and Emma Wagner was sixth in 3:57.57.

Merrimack Youth

Baseball/Softball Contest

Merrimack Youth Baseball will be hosting the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run contest for all Merrimack registered baseball/softball players age 7-14 (age as of July 17) on Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m at Veterans Field in Merrimack.

Participants will complete in four age brackets – ages 7-8, 9-10,11-12 and 13-14 and the winners of each bracket will move on to the next round of the competition held at a later date in Manchester. This event is free of charge. Visit myabaseball.com for more information.

Silver Knights baseball camp

The Nashua Silver Knights will be hosting their annual baseball camp at Holman Stadium July 13-17 from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m.

The cost is $199 per camper, open to youths ages seven to 14, although others can be considered under special circumstances.

Campers will receive a Nashua Silver Knights Summer Baseball Camp T-shirt and four reserved tickets to the Camp Day game, and campers will take part in a pre-game parade. Lunch will be served each day of the camp, and water will be provided.

Nashua Chiefs tryouts

The Nashua Chiefs, who will be playing in the New England Independent Baseball League, will be holding tryouts May 16 and 17 at Ledge Street baseball field at 10 a.m. on both days.

The regular season schedule will consist of 18 games and offer a multi-game playoff tournament format. Games will be played on set days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and doubleheaders will be played on Saturdays.

The Hollis Brookline Jr. Cavaliers Football and Cheer Program registration is open for the 2015 season. A second o registration will be held at the Brookline Fire Department back room from 10 a.m.-noon June 6.

Prior to registering, applicants will need to register on the NHYFSC site (nhyfcs.org), print out required forms and bring to registration.

MYA Executive Board Elections

The Merrimack Youth Association (MYA) will be having elections for positions on the MYA Executive Board on May 14 at the MYA Building.

The Nominating Committee is now accepting names for the following two-year terms:

New Hampshire Knights

tryouts

The New Hampshire Knights baseball program is holding tryouts for the summer season for players ages 15 to 19 (determined May 1).

Tryouts are at Academy Field Wednesday nights at 265 Proctor Hill Road in Hollis for the next several Wednesdays.

The team is made up of varsity athletes from southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts and plays its home games at Academy Field in Hollis.

The season will run from mid June to early August with 22 regular season games and a playoff tournament.

The Knights were established in 2006, compete in the New England Independent Baseball League and finished second last year and were state champions the two previous seasons.

Junior Legion tryouts

Tryouts for the Nashua American Legion Post 124 Junior Team will be held on Saturday, May 30 from 9 a.m.-noon at Nashua’s Ledge Street Field (139 Ledge St.).

There is no fee to try out, and the team is managed by former Nashua Pride player Austin Wasserman.

Windham wrestling camp

The Windham High School wrestling staff will host a four-day youth wrestling camp June 22-25 from 3-6 p.m. for students entering grades K-9 (pre-K wrestlers also welcome at parent/coach discretion).

Designed for all levels of experience, the camp will focus on wrestling skills as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, nutrition, and proper training methods

Campers will receive personal tips, personal letters home, and other gifts from their counselors. Members of the Windham High School wrestling team will be on hand. Hudson Girls softball league

The Hudson Girls Softball League (HGSL) is now accepting player registration for the upcoming softball season. The league is open to all girls in the surrounding towns, and registration is available online HGSL.ORG

The 6U (six-and-under) 8U, and 10U divisions will not have tryouts as everyone will be put on a team. For more information go to the HGSL website, HGSL.ORG.

Umass Lowell girls soccer clinic

The UMass Lowell women’s soccer coaching staff and players will hold a one day clinic for girls in grades nine through 12 on Sunday, May 17 from noon to 4 p.m. at the turf field at the Cushing Field Complex.

The registration fee is $100 and is refundable in the case of inclement weather or if the camp is cancelled.

UNH Boys Soccer Camp

The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer program will hold its residential camp Sunday, July 26 run through Thursday, July 30.

The camp is open to boys ages nine through 18 and will feature a variety of features and training programs, including specialized goalkeeper training. Current and former UNH men’s soccer players will be in attendance as camp counselors while college coaches from NCAA Divisions I, II and III will be in attendance as staff members and evaluators.

The cost for a residential camper is $595 while the cost for a day camper is $475. Included in the price are five days of soccer training and instruction, a camp t-shirt, three meals per day and on-campus housing in a UNH dormitory for those staying overnight.

Football league accepting

new members

The Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL) is currently accepting new members for the 2015 season.

The NJHFL offers three distinct levels of football and cheerleading for those athletes in grades two through eight. The league also holds its own cheer competition that is open both to league members and non-members.

The NJHFL has 13 organizations, representing 29 teams from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Currently, over 900 players and close to 700 cheerleaders participate in the league annually. For more information or league contact info, please visit northeastjhfl.com

NH Knights openings

The New Hampshire Knights have openings on their 13U AAU team. Ages are determined on May 1st 2015. Last year this team finished third overall in the New England Regionals.

NH Grizzlies openings

The New Hampshire Grizzlies U14 baseball team has a few openings left for the 2015 season.

John Roper pitching lessons

The John Roper Pitching School, run by the former Major Leaguer and Nashua Pride hurler, has openings for private and semi-private pitching lessons. Pitching classes include pitchers fielding practice, pick off

moves, covering bunts etc. There is a maximum of 10 students per class.

UNH field hockey clinics

The University of New Hampshire field hockey program will hold a Youth Clinic May 5-7 for girls and boys in grades K-4 at Memorial Field.

The cost is $10 per daily session, which is held 4-5:30 p.m. all three days.

Participants will learn skills and rules of the game from current Wildcat field hockey players and the staff. Contact Claire Grogan via e-mail at Claire.Grogan@unh.edu to register for one, two or all three days.

The Summer Skills and Play clinics, which are open to middle and high school athletes, are held the first three Tuesdays in June (9, 16 and 23) from 6-7:30 p.m. each session with training by members of the UNH field hockey team and coaching staff.

The cost is $25 per session or $65 for all three sessions.
