The New England Flames eighth grade girls basketball team went undefeated recently at the Zero Gravity Best of Boston Tourney at Boston University, scoring just under 200 points in four games with help from several locals. Vermont’s, Becky Wright, led the scoring in all games. Olivia Gagnon of Pelham, had an outstanding weekend offensively and defensively and contributed 17 points in the final game including three 3-pointers.

Sarah Lavoie (Hudson), Katie Carr and Kathryn Lynn (Nashua) controlled the boards on both ends. Defensively, Julie Gagnon and Janessa Lofton (Nashua) applied backcourt pressure.

Offensively, Jasmine Sylvester, Jaden Smith, Peyton Ryan (Nashua) and Pelham’s Becca Marion also played well.

The Flames, now 8-1, will play in the state tournament May 2-3.

Lacrosse

Blast U13 girls edge Seacoast

The Nashua Blast Purple U13 girls downed Portsmouth recently in a 7-6 nailbiter that went down to the final eight seconds.

Seacoast took a 2-0 lead to start despite Blast goalie Payson Mooso’s three first-half saves.

Nashua’s Taylor Guilfoil scored unassisted to make the score 2-1, followed by Kaylie Keegan’s game-tying goal (assist to Bailey Morin on a long clear). Seacoast grabbed a 3-2 halftime lead in the final minute of the first half.

The Blast defense of Theresa Ellison, Liv Hlebichuk, Madison Sewade, Olivia Kingston, Julia Mendes and Elinor Addonizio was a key in the win.

Kirsten McIntire dominated the draws to start the second half and scored unassisted to tie the game back up at 3-3. The Seacoast quickly scored and were up again by one. Once again, McIntire scored unassisted to make it 4-4.

Seacoast took the lead off a free position shot shortly after.

Blast midfielders Britney Pearson, Amelia Piercy, Grace Bellavance, Emily Morneau, Lindsay Hult and Kiley O’Brien also played well.

With about 15 minutes left to play in the game, Pearson got the ball up to McIntire who scored her third goal off a crease roll around the net to make it 5-5. With under eight minutes left in the game Hult worked the ball up field and got it to McIntire who then passed to Sarah Signorello who slipped a beautiful shot by the goalie to give Nashua the lead for good, 6-5.

The Blast capped it off on another goal by Keegan from a feed from McIntire and Morneau. Seacoast was able to slip one more by Mooso in goal but that was all that they would get. Mooso stayed strong for the last three minutes and had three key saves including one on a free position shot in the final seconds, handing Seacoast a rare loss.

The Blast will face Windham after the school vacation.

Swimming

Grace Wang, a seventh grade student at Presentation of Mary in Hudson, recently competed in the Boys and Girls Clubs National Champions swim meet in St. Petersburg, Fla.

A beginning swimmer just three years ago, Wang was one of 28 swimmers representing the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, as a member of the Pride Swim team, and swam a personal best in all of her individual events.

Wang advanced to the national finals where she placed 14th in the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke and 18th in the 100 yard butterfly.

Silver Knights baseball camp

The Nashua Silver Knights will be hosting their annual baseball camp at Holman Stadium, July 13-17 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The cost is $199 per camper, open to youths ages 7-14, although others can be considered under special circumstances.

Campers will receive a Nashua Silver Knights Summer Baseball Camp T-shirt and four reserved tickets to the Camp Day game, and campers will take part in a pre-game parade. Lunch will be served each day of the camp, and water will be provided.

The Merrimack Youth Association (MYA) will be having elections for positions on the MYA Executive Board on May 14 at the MYA Building.

Nashua Baseball Academy camp

The Nashua Baseball Academy will hold a vacation baseball camp from April 27 through May 1 from 9 a.m.-noon each day, rain or shine, at the indoor/outdoor facility at 265 Proctor Hill Road in Hollis.

The camp will focus on player development,skills training and will feature games and competitions.

The fee is $125 and athletes can come selected days for a pro-rated fee.

Junior Legion tryouts

Tryouts for the Nashua American Legion Post 124 Junior Team will be held on Saturday, May 30 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Nashua’s Ledge Street Field (139 Ledge St.).

There is no fee to try out, and the team is managed by former Nashua Pride player Austin Wasserman.

The Hollis Brookline Junior Cavaliers football and cheer program registration is open for the 2015 season.

Onsite registrations will be held at the Brookline Fire Department back room from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on May 2 and June 6.

Windham Wrestling Camp

The Windham High School wrestling staff will host a four-day youth wrestling camp June 22-25 from 3-6 p.m. for students entering grades K-9 (pre-K wrestlers also welcome at parent/coach discretion).

Designed for all levels of experience, the camp will focus on wrestling skills as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, nutrition, and proper training methods. Campers will receive personal tips, personal letters home, and other gifts from their counselors. Members of the Windham High School wrestling team will be on hand.

The cost of camp is $100 per wrestler, and additional siblings are only $25 each.

UNH boys soccer camp

The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer program will hold its residential camp Sunday, July 26 run through Thursday, July 30.

The camp is open to boys ages nine through 18 and will feature a variety of features and training programs, including specialized goalkeeper training. Current and former UNH men’s soccer players will be in attendance as camp counselors while college coaches from NCAA Divisions I, II and III will be in attendance as staff members and evaluators.

The cost for a residential camper is $595 while the cost for a day camper is $475. Included in the price are five days of soccer training and instruction, a camp t-shirt, three meals per day and on-campus housing in a UNH dormitory for those staying overnight.

Football league accepting new members

The Northeast Junior High Football League is currently accepting new members for the 2015 season.

The NJHFL offers three distinct levels of football and cheerleading for those athletes in grades 2-8. The league also holds its own cheer competition that is open both to league members and

non-members.

The NJHFL has 13 organizations, representing 29 teams from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Currently, more than 900 players and nearly 700 cheerleaders participate in the league annually.

NH Knights openings

The New Hampshire Knights have openings on their 13U AAU team. Ages are determined on May 1. Last year this team finished third overall in the New England Regionals.
