Wrestlers from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua’s (BGCN) three public middle school wrestling teams and the Nashua Catholic Jr. High team did well in the Ninth Annual Mark Thibault Memorial All-City Middle School Wrestling Championships.

The defending Elm Street Eagles captured first place and with it the Mark Thibault Cup, their third win in the tourney’s nine-year run.

“I’m really proud of the Elm kids.,” Elm Street coach Dan Beaulieu said. “They spent the last year hearing that all they did was tie (with the Nashua Catholic Wildcats) last year.

“Captains Garrett Hillard, Owen Duda and Dominick Gentry did an excellent job motivating their teammates”.

Pennichuck coach J.W. Williams was happy with his team’s performance as well.

“They had a great season and the kids became a very tight knit group who supported each other throughout the season,” he said.

Merrimack wrestlers solid at state tourney

Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program sixth graders Aiden Hanning and Anson Dewar recently performed well in the annual Fifth-Sixth Grade Meet of Champions/New Hampshire state Championship tournament at Kearsarge Regional Middle School.

Hanning fell 4-0 to Nashua rival Zach Rioux, 4-0, in the finals of the . Both wrestlers will advance to the New England Championships later this month.

Earlier, Hanning breezed into the championship match by pinning his Seabrook opponent and racking up an 18-0 tech fall against his Timberlane foe.

Dewar, meanwhile, dominated his first match, a 15-0 win via technical fall. However, he dropped his final two matches to Salem and Keene opponents respectively, taking him out of medal contention.

Cavs AA2 Squirts win 3 of last 4

The Southern New Hampshire Cavaliers Squirt AA2 team won three of four games to stay on top of the Valley Hockey League Central Division with a record of 13-3-4.

Cavs 5, Chelmsford (MASS.) 3

Will Dodge led the way with two goals and one assist, while Colin Flood had a a goal and an assist. Isaac Windsor and Ryan Bizier each had a goal and Jonathan Childs and Aidan Rowe added single assists.

Cyclones 5, Cavs 1

Dodge had the lone Cavs goal, assisted by Bizier.

Cavs 3, Andover (MASS.) 1

Dodge had a hat trick while there was also great defensive work by Ryan Kelley and Matthew MacBean. Jack Conmy had a solid two-way game while Cavs goalie Matthew D’Ortona got the win.

Goalie Jake Lacasse posted the shutout while Dodge had a hat trick and an assist.

Jonathan Childs added a goal and an assist while Thomas Cahill had a goal (and played well defensively). Bryson Giersch added a goal while Bizier had two assists. Single assists went to Matt D’Ortona and Isaac Windsor.

St. Christopher girls Mites
season ends with tough loss

The St. Christopher Girls Mites lost their final game of the season to Infant Jesus, 19-16, despite nine points from Anna Stawasz. Julia Gadbois had added three and Claire LaPlante and Amelia Piercy each had two.

Zarina Nicholas, Kate Hansen and Emily Dowling all played well defensively for the Huskies, while Ava Therrien had eight steals and eight rebounds.

Ava Soucy and Cameron Iaquinta also played well with several assists.

Meanwhile, the St. Christopher Boys Mites White, despite being tied with St. Joseph’s entering the final quarter, fell 16-9. Sam Sirois had seven points and Luke Mutty, two, for St. Christopher.

Elsewhere, the St. Christopher Junior Mites fell to St. Patrick’s, 30-16. Ebuka Okorie had 14 points and Kelechi Okorie two for St. Christopher.

Nuggets 23, Celtics 13

The Nuggets’ Kaval Botadra led scorers with 11. Sean Sullivan added 10 points, while the Celtics Jared Schofield had six. Liam O’Keefe, Toby Brown and Nicholas Digese played well defensively.

SKATING

Nashua girl a gold medalist at RI event

Evelyn Duffy, age 12 of Nashua, was a member of the Hayden Mini-Mates synchronized skating team that won the gold medal in the juvenile catageory of the National Synchronized Skating Competitions held last month in Providence, R.I.

Duffy, a sixth grader at St. Christopher School, is the only New Hampshire member of the team. She has has participated in synchronized skating for the past three years and for six years was a medal winning member of the Nashua YMCA ‘Storm’ swim team.

Altogether, 96 teams competed at the Nationals with nearly 1,800 Skaters. The Hayden Mini-Mates is the Juvenile team that is part of the Hayden Skating Club in Lexington, Mass.

Nashua Soccer registration

The Nashua Youth Soccer League registration is open until March 23 open to boys and girls in Nashua and surrounding towns born between Oct. 1, 1995 and Sept. 30, 2009.

Registrations received by March 23 will be guaranteed placement on a team. Registrations received after that date may be wait listed. The season is tentatively scheduled to start Apr. 11.

Windham Clinic on Saturday

Assumption College Softball players and coaches will hold a clinic on Saturday, March 14 in the Windham High School gym at 64 London Bridge Road.

There will be two sessions for players in grades four through 12. Session I is for grades four through seven from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Session II is for grades seven through 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

NJHFL accepting new members

The Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL) is currently accepting new members for the 2015 season.

The NJHFL offers three distinct levels of football and cheerleading for those athletes in grades two through eight. The league also holds its own cheer competition that is open both to league members and non-members.

The NJHFL has 13 organizations, representing 29 teams from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Currently, over 900 players

The New Hampshire Knights have openings on their 13U AAU team. Ages are determined on May 1st 2015. Last year this team finished third overall in the New England Regionals.
