Presentation of Mary Academy hoop team reaches semifinals

The Presentation of Mary girls Mites team, made up of fifth and sixth graders, suffered a tough loss to St. Catherine in the semifinals of the Catholic School Basketball Tournament.

In the quarterfinals, PMA topped St. Christopher 36-22. Leading the way offensively for the Griffins was Iruka Obinelo and Sadie LaMothe. Sophia Poulos played well defensively while Bailey Carroll, Eile Doyle, Hannah Fortin and Maddie Moynihan also contributed.

Meanwhile, representing the Griffins in three different CYO All-Star games were Sadie LaMothe, Iruka Obinelo, Paul Soucy, Aiden Szewczyk, Nick Cardenas, Greg Fallon and Allan McPhee.

Paul Soucy was named the MVP of the Nashua White squad in a close Boys Mites All-Star Game.

Another PMA star, Bailey Carroll, was crowned state free throw champion competing against fifth and sixth grade girls from the Nashua and Manchester area.

Nashua Biddy

Cavs 53, Stars 38

The Cavs wrapped up first place in the ABA 2 division. Leading all scorers were Josh Lentz with 21 and Mason Matylewski with 19. Also contributing offensively were Miles Rios, Rishi Patel, Gavin Belesca, Colin Holbrook and Brandon Metivier.

Lukas Fong led the Stars with 12 followed by Abhay Gandhi with 10. Also contributing were Andrew Tall, Joshua and Nathan Kane. Defensively Nathan Brodeur and Travis Holbrook stood out for Cavs.

Cavs 46, Pistons 32

Cavs were led by Lentz’s 12 points and Gavin Belesca’s 10. The Pistons were led by Brenden Peno’s 15 points and 11 from Mike Robbins.

Cavs 49, Lancers 20

The Cavs finished the regular season at 16-0 as Lentz had 16 points while Matylewski added 10. The Lancers were led by Issac Rivera and Devin Bracetty,

Defensively TJ Klein and Cam Miele played well for the Cavs while Jose Velasquez, and Jack Calzini did the job for the Lancers.

Nashua Junior Biddy

Nuggets 29, Eagles, 21

Sean Sullivan scored 11 to lead the winners while Aidan Sullivan and Ronit Khanna added six each.

Joshua Caruso (seven) and Zion McLendez (six) led the Eagles while Ty Longvail played well defensively.

Stars 27, Nuggets 22

The Stars’ Jack Sullivan led all scorers with 13 points while Javari Ellison and Javonte Lopez had six each. Sean Sullivan and Shreyas Pedda had six apiece for the Nuggets.

Nuggets 28, Mustangs 14

Pedda scored eight to lead the winners while Joshua Mathson added two. Liam O’Keefe, David Taylor, Collins Laleau and Sebastian Laleau played well defensively.

GYMNASTICS

NSG solid in Tewksbury (Mass.)

Nashua School of Gymnastics Levels 4 -10 teams competed recently at the Wilkey’s Invitational in Tewksbury, Mass Individual results as follows:

Level 4 (Child A Division):

Jillian Gillis had an All Around of 34.50. She scored an 8.85 (fourth) on vault, 7.750 on bars, 9.10 on beam and 8.80 on floor.

Level 4 (Child B Division):

Makenzie Berleth had a second place All Around of 36.275 as she scored an 8.650 (eighth) on vault, 9.225 (fourth) on bars, 9.50 (first) on beam and 8.90 (fifth) on floor.

Megan White had an All Around of 35.20; she scored an 8.725 (sixth) on vault, 8.825 on bars, 8.75 on beam and 8.9 (sixth) on floor.

Level 4 (Junior Division):

Cloe Rivest had an All Around of 336.025, good for third. She scored a 9.150 (third) on vault, 8.850 (sixth) on bars, 9.40 (second) on beam and 8.90 (fifth) on floor.

Level 5 (Child A Division):

Cristina Cross had an All Around of 34.70 (ninth); she scored a 9.050 (fourth) on vault, 8.20 on bars, 8.80 (sixth) on beam and 8.650 on floor.

Lindsey Campbell had an All Around of 33.30 with an 8.950 (seventh) on vault, 7.90 on bars, 7.850 on beam and 8.60 on floor.

Level 5 (Child B Division):

Sue Mai White had an All Around of 34.80 (sixth place); she scored an 8.750 on vault, 8.850 on bars, 8.450 (sixth) on beam and 8.750 (seventh) on floor.

April Koczalka had an All Around of 34.10 with a 9.00 (third) on vault, 7.850 on bars, 8.250 (eighth) on beam and 9.00 (third) on floor.

Gabbi Gillis had an All Around of 34.050; she scored a 9.00 (fourth) on vault, 8.50 on bars, 8.05 (ninth) on beam and 8.50 on floor.

Annika Sinclair had an All Around of 33.625 with an 8.825 (eighth) on vault, 8.350 (tenth) on bars, 7.550 on beam and 8.90 (fourth) on floor.

Level 7 (Child Division):

Corey Foster finished with an All Around of 35.80 as she scored a 9.15 on vault, 8.90 on bars, 8.65 on beam and a 9.10 (eighth) on floor.

Level 7 (Junior Division):

Emily Colburn had an All Around of 35.125; she scored a 9.175 on vault, 8.20 on bars, 8.825 (eleventh) on beam and 8.925 (sixth) on floor.

Level 7 (Senior Division):

Madelyn Campano had a first place All Around of 35.10 thanks to a 9.225 (first) on vault, 8.90 (first) on bars, 8.35 (third) on beam and 8.625 (second) on floor.

Lexi Sarro finished second with an All Around of 34.025 as she scored an 8.925 (second) on vault, 7.35 on bars, 8.90 (first) on beam and 8.85 (first) on floor.

Olivia Bouthot had an All Around of 33.10 (third place); she scored an 8.75 on vault, 7.35 on bars, 8.50 (second) on beam and 8.50 (third) on floor.

Level 8 (Junior Division):

Devon Rosier took the top All Around spot with a 36.00, scoring an 8.525 (third) on vault, 9.175 (second) on bars, 9.40 (first) on beam and 8.90 (first) on floor.

Level 8 (Senior Division):

Deanna Poirier had an All Around of 35.625 (second place); she scored an 8.75 (fourth) on vault, 9.075 (second) on bars, 8.775 (second) on beam and 9.025 (first) on floor.

Level 10 (Senior Division):

Alanna Murphy had a third place All Around of 32.375 with an 8.725 (third) on vault, 8.250 (first) on bars, 7.00 (fourth) on beam and 8.40 (second) on floor.

Nashua Sports Academy C4

The Nashua Sports Academy C4 Baseball U-11 and U-13 teams will hold tryouts on Feb. 21 from 1:30-3 p.m. (registration at 1:15) at the program’s facility at 90 Northwest Blvd. in Nashua.

Players for the U-11 team must be 11-years-old by May 1, 2015. The team will play doubleheaders on Sundays.

The U-13 players must be 13-years-old by May 1, 2015. It will be a long season format, with doubleheaders on Saturdays and Sundays from April to early August.

Nashua Cal Ripken registration

Those interested in playing Nashua Cal Ripken baseball this spring can currently register on line at www.nashuacalripken.org. Tryout information, etc. will be soon be posted on the site as well.

Nashua Umpire Training

The Nashua Baseball Umpires Association will hold its annual training program for anyone interested in becoming a certified Cal Ripken Baseball umpire.

The program, which begins on March 8 and runs through Apr. 12 consists of training on in-depth rules, field and plate mechanics.

Merrimack Youth Baseball will be holding in person registration for the spring season on the following dates:

MYA elections

The Merrimack Youth Association (MYA) Wrestling Program will be having elections for positions on the MYA Wrestling Board on March 2,5 at the MYA Building.

The Program is now accepting names for the following one-year terms: Director, Assistant Director, Treasurer, Secretary, Scheduler, Equipment Manager, and Fundraising Manager. Windham softball clinic

Assumption College Softball players and coaches will hold a clinic on Saturday, March 14t in the Windham High School gym at 64 London Bridge Road.

There will be two sessions for players in grades four through 12. Session I is for grades four through seven from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Session II is for grades seven through 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The cost for the clinic is $25 for registrations received on or before Thursday, March 12 and $30 at the door. Check-in and registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Nashua Baseball Academy

The Nashua Baseball Academy is currently having group training at the Hollis Training Facility, 265 Proctor Hill Road.

There is currently group training for ages 12 and under and ages 13 and older. The group meets twice a week for one-and-a-half hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays for five weeks and the focus is proper hitting, conditioning and throwing mechanics in a team-like setting

The session for ages 12 and under is 4-5:30 p.m. and 13 and older is 5:30-7 p.m. They are free for members; the cost is $300 to non-members.

NH Knights openings

The New Hampshire Knights have openings on their 13U AAU team. Ages are determined on May 1st 2015. Last year this team finished third overall in the New England Regionals. Openings are for serious players only.

John Roper pitching lessons

The John Roper Pitching School, run by the former Major Leaguer and Nashua Pride hurler, has openings for private and semi-private pitching lessons. Pitching classes include pitchers fielding practice, pick off moves, covering bunts etc. There is a maximum of 10 students per class.

Nashua registration

The Nashua Youth Soccer League registration is open until March 23, open to boys and girls in Nashua and surrounding towns born between Oct. 1, 1995 and Sept. 30, 2009.

Registrations received by March 23 will be guaranteed placement on a team. Registrations received after that date may be wait listed.

The season is tentatively scheduled to start Apr. 11.

Football

NJHFL looking for players

The Northeast Junior High Football League (NJHFL) is currently accepting new members for the 2015 season.

The NJHFL offers three distinct levels of football and cheerleading for those athletes in grades two through eight. The league also holds its own cheer competition that is open both to league members and non-members.

The NJHFL has 13 organizations, representing 29 teams from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Currently, over 900 players and close to 700 cheerleaders participate in the league annually.
