Nashua Elks Hoop Shoot champs win district competition
Five Nashua Elks Hoop Shoot champions won the 2015 State Elks’ Southwest District Hoop Shoot Free Throw competition
Nashua’s 13-year-old Peyton Adams and 9-year-old Ryan Haskell won in the Boys Division and three Nashua girls, 12-year-old Bianca Gershgorin, 10-year-old Ariana Sola and 9-year-old Morgan Gillis swept the Girls Southwest Division. Nashua’s other participant, 11-year-old Sebastian Coelho, finished in second in the 10-11 division.
The winners will move on to compete in the State Free Throw Championship in Portsmouth against the Northwest and Northeast District champions on Sunday, Feb. 1.
State Champions will compete in the New England Elks Regionals on March 22 in South Portland, Maine, with the winners competing in the Nationals in Springfield, Mass., in April.
Nashua Nighthawks
eighth graders win
The Nighthawks went 4-0 at the First Annual NSA Christmas Tournament, scoring a total of 224 points and held their opponents to a total of 122 points.
Also, the Nighthawks beat Windham, 54-44, as Arianna Motivala and Amber Dube (four 3-pointers) led the team in scoring with 14 points each. Emily Foltan (seven points), Katie Carr (six), Julia Gagnon (five), Jaden Smith (four) and Janessa Lofton (one) all contributed to the offense.
Jasmine Sylvester and Kathryn Lynn also played well while Sylvester, Motivala, Gagnon and Loftan had several assists.
Defensively, Motivala and Gagnon helped in the backcourt, while Peyton Ryan, Smith, Carr and Foltan controlled the boards.
CYO BASKETBALL
St. Chris Jr. Mites do well
The St. Chris Jr. Mites White team topped Ressurection 20-8 for their first win (1-3),paced by Ebuka Okorie’s 12 points. Kelechi Okorie and Zazhary Samarel added four apiece.
The St. Chris Green team moved to 4-0 with a 29-8 win over Infant Jesus. Trevor Labrecque led scoring with 13 points while Bobby Canaway had seven, Cameron Prangley four, Patrick Keegan three, and Johnny Canaway two.
All Sr. St. Chris Mites teams took a loss last weekend, with the girls falling 24-14 to St. Elizbeths.
Ana Stawasz (six points), Ava Therrien (five), and Amelia Piercy and Cameron Iaquinta (one each) led the way. Claire LaPlante, Caroline Vanderburgh, Aliya Lewis and Julia Gadbois rebeounded well while Emily Dowling, Kate Hansen and Ava Soucy played well defensively. St. Chris is now 2-5.
The 0-5 Boys Mites-White fell to PMA, 28-4, with Connor Winslow and Sam Sirois scoring.
Boys Mites-Green (5-1) lost their first of the season, 26-18, at the hands of Resurrection. Danny Dockrill led St. Chris with seven points while other scorers were Spencer Labrecque, Bobby Canaway, Keith Dow, Reilly Hansen, Danny Klevisha, and Trevor Labrecque.

Logan McIntosh scored 14 points while playing tough defense for the Blazers. Tyler Bernard dropped in 18 points while Angel Amparo chipped in with his first hoop for the season for the winners. Adam Kelliher had 11 for the Jets.

Rockets 21, Panthers 14
The Rockets scoring was led by Caitlyn Olsen with seven points while Catherine Covert and Olivia Baldassaro added four each, . Malia Martel and Vanessa Reeder played well defensively while Olivia Johnson led the Pantehrs with four.

Erin Bourgeios led the Tigers with six points while Alexa Wilkins and Kendall Bush keyed the defensive effort.
Lauren Lang led the Lakers with four points.

Grace Wilson led the Tigers with eight whil Shatia Ellison and Kylie Dawe played well defensively. Olivia Johnson led the Panthers with six.

Chloe Goforth, Theresa Ellison and Daija Davis eah scored 10 points to lead the Tigers. The Celtics’ Aurora Holland scored five.

The Jazz’ Sam McElliott led all scorers with nine, while Christian Belonga added eight and Trevor McLuin seven.

Belonga was the game high scorer with nine points while Cody Gagon added eight.

Mason Matylewski, Stav Alkalay, Travis Holbrook, Brandon Metivier all had eight points for the Cavs.
The Warriors were led by Aaaron Roberage with 10.

The Cavs stayed undefeated as Matylewski led the way with 23 points and 20-plus rebounds. The Knicks were led by Manny Mendoza with 12 points.

Kaval Botadra had 10 points while Ronit Khanna added nine for the winners. Dean Adams, Lee Hill and Ian Mack all had two each for the Bulldogs.

Nuggets’ Shreyas Pedda led all scorers with16 while; Joshua Caruso had five for the Eagles.

The Bulldogs’ Adams led all scorers with 14 points while Tyler Rollo had a great game off the bench.

lose to Haverhill
The Cavaliers saw an eight-game win streak come to an end, despite the efforts of Cavan Quinn in goal for the Cavs, while the defensive pairs of Chase Devins, Sinead Macaraeg, Nick Fortier and Emma Dunn also played well.
Matt Choate (unassisted), Kevin Sullivan (Jesse Gertz assist), Chase Devins (two goals, Gertz two assists and Nick Bono one) produced the Cavs’ offense.

Merrimack wrestlers
do well in tourney
The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program had six wrestlers take home medals at the Chelmsford (Mass.) Youth Wrestling Tournament held at Chelmsford High School.
First grader Cayden Dine rolled through his bracket winning three matches, two via pin, to bring home first-place honors.
Second grader Ivey Johnson recorded her first pin of the season en route to a second-place showing.
Sixth grader Anson Dewar won two matches before dropping a heartbreaking one point loss in the finals, netting him a second-place finish.
Also, kindergartener Kael McAloon finished in third while fellow kindergartner Collin Schuster finished fourth. Finally, third grader Mitchell Krupp wrestled well in the select bracket to bring home a fourth-place medal.

NSG Levels 4-10 competed in the Winter Carnival Invitational at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham, with Level 4 and 5 teams taking top honors with scores of 110.220 and 111.220
Level 4 (Icicles Division)
Makenzie Berleth qualified for the state meet with an All Around of 36.825 (first place); she scored an 8.50 (fourth) on vault, 9.575 (first) on bars, 9.450 (first) on beam and 9.30 (first) on floor.
Megan White qualified for states with an All Around of 35.30 (second place) as she scored a 8.475 (sixth) on vault, 9.475 (second) on bars, 8.250 (seventh) on beam and 9.10 (second) on floor.
Jillian Gillis also qualified for states with an All Around of 34.60 (fifth place), scoring an 8.50 (fifth) on vault, 7.70 on bars, 9.30 (second) on beam and 9.10 (third) on floor.
Level 4 (Polar Bear Division):
Cloe Rivest qualified for the states meet with a first place All Around of 37.025. She scored a 9.325 (first) on vault, 9.05 (third) on bars, 9.350 (first) on beam and 9.30 (first) on floor.
Level 5 (Icicles Division):
April Koczalka qualified for states and received the award for the highest All Around Score of the session with a first place total of 37.775. She scored a 9.450 (first) on vault, 9.350 (first) on bars, 9.625 (first) on beam and 9.350 (first) on floor.
Cristina Cross qualified for States with an All Around of 36.425 (third place); she scored a 9.325 (third) on vault, 8.70 (second) on bars, 9.250 (fourth) on beam and 9.150 (sixth) on floor.
Lindsey Campbell qualified for the state meet with an All Around of 35.525 (sixth place). She scored a 9.250 (fifth) on vault, 8.550 (fifth) on bars, 8.40 on beam and 9.325 (second) on floor.
Sue Mai White also was a state meet qualifier with an All Around of 35.50 (seventh place). Her scores were a 9.150 (sixth) on vault, 8.550 (sixth) on bars, 8.950 (sixth) on beam and 8.850 on floor.
Gabbi Gillis qualified for states with an All Around of 33.825 (ninth place); she scored an 8.825 on vault, 7.400 on bars, 8.60 on beam and 9.00 (seventh) on floor.

Annika Sinclair qualified for States with a top All Around of 36.450 as she scored an 8.850 (seventh) on vault, 8.70 (third) on bars, 9.60 (first) beam and 9.30 (first) on floor.
Level 7 (Polar Bear Division):
Emily Colburn had an All Around of 25.575 (10th place); she scored a 9.20 (fourth) on vault, 7.925 on bars and 8.450 on beam.
Abbey Catalano had an All Around of 16.825 (11th); she scored a 9.125 on vault and 7.70 on beam.
Level 7 (Snowflake Division):
Emmie White qualified for the state meet with a first place All Around of 36.80. She scored a 9.30 (first) on vault, 8.90 (second) on bars, 8.950 (first) on beam and 9.650 (first) on floor.
Alexa Sarro qualified for the sectional meet with an All Around of 34.65 (fourth). She scored an 8.875 on vault, 7.80 on bars, 8.450 (fourth) on beam and 9.525 (second) on floor.
Reece Greenleaf qualified for the state meet with an All Around of 33.25 (ninth place); she scored an 8.950 (sixth) on vault, 7.10 on bars, 8.150 (sixth) on beam and 9.050 (sixth) on floor.

Deanna Poirier qualified for states with an All Around of 35.525 (second). She scored a 9.25 (first) on vault, 9.150 (first) on bars, 8.00 on beam and 9.125 (third) on floor.

Alanna Murphy had an All Around of 31.65 (sixth place), scoring an 8.950 (fourth) on vault, 7.450 on bars, 6.90 on beam and 8.350 on floor.
SWIMMING
Locals shine for
Executive Club
The Executive Swim Club recently finished sixth overall in the New England Senior Championships in Worcester, Mass.
Locally, Alex Bedard of Amherst competed in two A finals with a 100 Breaststroke time of 57.80His 200 Breaststroke time was 2:07.39. He also swam in the 200 IM in 1:55.87. (57.66).
Grant Levasseur of Litchfied had six final appearances, swimming bests in the 100 backstroke (51.94), 200 backstroke (1:53.69), and 100 butterfly (51.44).
Other local Executive swimmers competing were: Trent Levasseur of Litchfield (100 butterfly 53.13, 100 breaststroke 1:03.82), Matthew Falcone of Hollis (100 breaststroke 1:00.38, 200 breaststroke 2:12.71), Tyler Howard of Amherst (200 freestyle 1:44.71, 100 Butterfly 52.21), Katherine Brennan of Merrimack (100 backstroke 59.15), Michael Douglas of Litchfied (100 backstroke 55.02), Mary Rego of Amherst (100 breaststroke 1:10.17), and Kerry McCann of Nashua (100 backstroke 1:01.28),

Nashua Middle School
tournament set
The first Annual Nashua Middle School Basketball Tournament will be held at the Nashua High School South medium and large gyms on Jan. 24 beginning at 10 a.m.
Elm St, Fairgrounds, Pennichuck, and Nashua Catholic boys and girls basketball teams will be seeded based on games against each other in the regular season.
Girls semifinals will be at 10 a.m. with boys semifinals at 11:30. Consolation games will at 1 (girls) and 2:45 p.m. in the medium gym while the girls championship will be at 1 in the large gym, followed by the boys championship game at 2:45. Awards will be handed out after the title games.
Concessions will be open and admission is $1.

Nashua Cal Ripken baseball has begun taking player registrations the upcoming season. To register and for more information, visit the Nashua Sports Academy website, nashuasportsacademy.com, click on the tab marked news and proceed to the Cal Ripken registration form.
Tryouts for the 2015 season are scheduled for March 21 at the Nashua Sports Academy. All players that register for AAA and Majors who did not play on a roster for the league they signed up with last season must attend the tryouts.
This year the teams in both AAA and Majors will stay together this year with the coach who they played for last year, with new players who are selected in the draft.
