SNH Cavaliers Squirt AA2 win fourth straight game

The SNH Cavaliers routed Reading (Mass.) 13-1 in a recent Valley League contest.

Cavs defensemen Ryan Kelly and Matthew MacBean stood out in a scoreless first period.

In the second period forwards, Will Dodge (four goals, two assists) and Colin Flood along with defenseman Bryson Giersch pushed the Reading defense back on its heels. Dodge scored his first of the game with an assist to Flood and Giersch. Just seconds later Dodge and Flood combined again with Flood scoring to put the Cavs up 2-0

Reading caught the Cavs in a line change and cut the lead in half, 2-1. On the ensuing face off, Dodge went in all alone putting the Cavaliers back on top by two.

The Cavalier defensemen got into the scoring act as well. Giersch scored from the top of the offensive face of circle with an assist to Flood, while defensemen Aidan Rowe assisted on Flood’s second of the game to help make it 5-1 after two periods.

The third period was all Cavaliers as they erupted for eight goals, two of them by Dodge and two by Ryan Bizier.

Jonathan Childs and Aiden Rowe each had a goal and one assist, Jayke Lacasse a goal while Thomas Cahill and Isaac Windsor each had an assist. Cavalier netminder Matt D’Ortona also put in another strong performance.

SNH Cavaliers Squirt AA1 top Manchester Flames

The Cavalier Squirts added a third win to their streak, defeating the Manchester Flames 8-1.

Offensive pressure from the line of Niko Mastakouras, Joe Rodwell and Matthew Choate kept the puck in the Manchester zone for several minutes at a time during the first period. Solid goaltending from Manchester kept the Cavs off the board until halfway through the first when Michael Spinazzola hit Rodwell on a breakout pass coming through the neutral zone, and Rodwell converted for a 1-0 lead.

The Cavs scored their second goal of the period with five minutes remaining on a Matt Choate deflection from Jesse Gertz on a shot from the point. The offensive line of Chase Devins, Nick Bono and Evan Doughty added more pressure as the Cavs made it 3-0 on a Bono rebound goal off a Devins shot that hit the post.

Speedy and effective backchecking and shot blocking by Sinead Macaraeg, Nick Fortier, Jesse Gertz and Michael Spinazzola helped keep the Cavs in front. With four minutes left in teh second period, Devins turned an intercepted pass into a goal for a 4-0 lead.

After the Flames got on the board, Choate scored (assisted by Gertz) and the Cavs were well on their way.
