Ledge Street took the Deb Fraser Cup edging out Sunset Heights and Bicentennial in the 3K divison of the 19th annual Nashua Police Athletic League Elementary School cross country city championship race at Nashua High School North.

In the 3K boy’s race, Bicentennial repeated as champions claiming the Mark Fraser Cup ahead of Main Dunstable and St. Christopher School.

Race distances were 2K for 2nd and 3rd graders, while older elementary school runners ran 3K. The top 10 finishers in each race were:

Eighth grade: Crusaders 19, Manchester South Sabers 12

The Eighth Grade Elks Crusaders capped of the season with 19-12 victory over the Manchester South Sabers, ending the season at 4-4.

The Crusaders found the end zone twice in the second quarter. The first score came on the ground from Jaylan Pacheco, who had 10 carries on the day. Nashua’s second touchdown came on a pass from quarterback Andrew Penkala to Tanner Plourde. Plourde also ran effectively, carrying the ball 13 times and recording three first downs and an extra point.

The Elks got their third touchdown of the afternoon on a Penkala quarterback keeper, who scored on a quarterback keeper. Penkala ran the ball 10 times and collected six first downs, and was 4 of 6 passing with completions to Casey McNally, Plourde and Pacheco.

McNally also ran well and carried the ball six times and recorded two first downs. The Nashua offensive line of Joshua McElligott, Brandon Martin, Braden McDonnell, Tim Santerre, Warren Curtis, and Justin Arnesen played well. Additionally, wide receivers Jacob Babb and Cole Desmond blocked well.

The Nashua defense received big plays from Quincy Cotto (fumble recovery), Penkala (sack), and McNally and Arnesen on pass coverage. The Crusaders also received multiple tackles from Brendon Frost, Nathanael Tejeda, Plourde, McElligott, Martin, McDonnell, and Arnesen. Also playing well on defense were Adam Paquette, Warren Curtis, Anthony Dowd, Mark Lagasse, Tommy Cullerton, and Pacheco.

On special teams, the Elks were led by the foot of McElligott amd received tackles from Cullerton, Martin, Penkala, and McElligott. Nashua also had returns from Plourde and Penkala.

Fourth grade: Force 46,
Hudson-Litchfield Bears 0

The Nashua PAL Force Fourth Grade football team blew away the Hudson-Litchfield Bears, 46-0, to finish the regular season undefeated.

As the Bears began their first series Demitriz Sanchez made an immediate impact with a 5 yard tackle for a loss followed by a fumble recovery by Jack Peters at the Bears’45-yard line. Nashua’s second series consisted of a first down 22 yard run off the right side by Derek Finlay. On the next play, Reid Lavoie sealed the edge with a block to allow a 24-yard touchdown run by Amaury Almonte.

Other PAL Force results included: Nashua 3rd Grade over Plymouth; Keene 28, Nashua Fifth Grade 0; Nashua Sixth Grade 38, Keene 24; Londonderry 31, Nashua Seventh Grade 0; Keene 20, Nashua Eighth Grade 0.

Force strong at Bedford event

The Nashua PAL Force cheer teams performed well at the recent Season Premiere Competition in Bedford. The Tiny team received medals while Division 8 and Division 10 placed fourth, Division 12 placed second and Division 13 placed third.

Middle School

Nashua extends winning streak

The Nashua Middle School Field Hockey team continued its winning streak with a 2-1 win over Milford.

Nashua has not lost since a Sept. 18 game with Andover.

Emma Pucillo filled in for the injured Britney Pearson (arm) while Paige Callahan, Kirsten McIntire, Stella Liakakos, and Hannah Farley kept the pressure on. Julia Gagnon scored Nashua’s first goaloff an assist from Abbey Rowe for a 1-0 lead.

Milford tried to make a run at Nashua in the last few minutes of the first half but the stellar defensive play of Erin Sewell, Erica Brennan, Josephine Coehlo, Theresa Ellison and Emma Tommasetti did the job.

Nashua continued to apply the pressure in the second half led by Madison Sewade, Katherine Tello, Michela Puleo, Molly Caron, Rachel Reardon and Campbell Haller.

Paula Durant was right on the post and she knocked home a goal to put Nashua up 2-0. Liz Harrington, Liv Hlebichuck, Gabby Laferriere, Mikayla Breslin and Lauren Schalk held off a strong opposition attack before Milford beat Nashua goalie Courtney Tello, who was solid with seven saves.

The teams played a “fifth quarter” to allow the sixth graders on the Nashua team some game time. Playing well for Nashua on defense were Mackenzie Normand, Brooke Yabroudy, Elizabeth Deck, Kaylynn Allen, Josephine Tavores, Mackenzie Smith, Julia Cote, Amy Marson, Kylie O’Brien and Lauren Shaw.

Offensively Nashua had a few good chances to score but just couldn’t finish it. Nashua’s offense consisted of Olivia Soucy, Mackenzie Berthiaume and Alivia Febrizio. Nashua Middle School Field Hockey is now 7-2 on the season with one final game in Manchester next week.

SNH Cavaliers

Squirt: Cavs AA2 goes 6-2 in Valley League parity round

The Southern New Hampshire Cavaliers Squirt AA2 Team finished the parity round of the Valley Hockey League with a 6–2 record.

The Cavaliers posted a huge win in the final game of the round against the undefeated Manchester Flame 3-1. The outstanding defensive pairing of Aidan Rowe and Thomas Cahill along with Bryson Giersch and Matthew MacBean kept the Flames offense frustrated with constant forechecking.

The offensive lines of Ryan Bizier, Colin Flood, and Isaac Windsor, together with Will Dodge, Jayke Lacasse and Jonathan Childs put three goals on the board to take the win. Goaltender Matthew D’Ortona played strong between the pipes.

The Cavs top offensive scoring leaders in the parity round: Dodge 13 goals-6 assists-19 points, Childs 8-5-13 and Bizier 6-4-10.

NH Knights openings

The New Hampshire Knights have a few openings for their 13U team that finished third in the New England AAU Regionals last year as a 12U team. This team will be attending Baseball Heaven in New York in the spring. All home games are played at Academy Field in Hollis, so there is little travel.

Features of the program include twice a week off-season training with a flexible schedule, camps and clinics for specific positional play, complete uniform and a strength and conditioning component. Ages are determined May 1st 2015.

NH Grizzlies training

The New Hampshire Grizzlies will be offering training for baseball players at their private facility in southern New Hampshire until Feb. 23.

All training will be done by managers/coaches of the NH Grizzlies EBL Teams. Each has many years of training high school/collegiate /MLB players; four are former Grizzlies.

Sessions will cover skills that are age appropriate.

The times are Mondays 6-7:15 p.m.for players age 12 and under, and Mondays 7:30-8:45 p.m. for players 13 and above.

The cost is $100 per month. Pre-registration with payment for each month will be required.

Participants will be limited in order for the instructors to give personalized attention.

NH Grizzlies openings

The New Hampshire Grizzlies U14 baseball team has a few openings left for the 2015 season.

This is a full year program with winter workouts starting in October.

Managers are not parents and all practices are at the team’s private indoor facility.

John Roper pitching lessons

The John Roper Pitching School, run by the former Major Leaguer and Nashua Pride hurler begins in November, consisting of private and semi-private pitching lessons.
