Nashua middle school wrestlers take titles
Six Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua middle school wrestlers earned individual state titles at the New Hampshire Middle School Wrestling Championships at Londonderry High School.
In the fifth-sixth grade division, Owen Duda and Owen Finn of BGCGN’s Elm Street Middle School squad were crowned the state champions in the 103 -and 73-pound weight classes.
Fifth graders Kyle Gora from Nashua Catholic and Zachary Rioux from the BGCGN youth program also took top spots for the 97- and 91-pound classes.
Pennichuck’s Eddie Reyes became state champion at 215 pounds for the seventh-eighth grade division while Cameron Mclure from BGCGN’s Hudson program also took first place at the 88-pound class.
BGCGN’s Fairgrounds team had three wrestlers win in the fifth-sixth division. Nathan Zalzal (138), Kalique Jones (160) took seconds while Patrick Melanson took the bronze at 69 pounds.
In addition to Gora’s title, Nashua Catholic Junior High also had Kevin Lyskawa at 94 pounds earn silver honors while Thomas Christian (74) grabbed the bronze, both in the seventh-eighth division.
Others who qualified and wrestled hard but did not take top spots were Tom Cullerton (NC), Hunter McLaughlin (NC), Stephen Miller (NC), Noah Blecharzcyk (NC), Ben Salizzoni (NC), Jeremy Bridge (Fairgrounds), Trevor Froburg (Fairgrounds), Connor Goodwin (Fairgrounds) and Dominick Gentry (Elm Street).
Wrestlers who finished in the top six places in the previous regional tournaments at Timberline and John Stark qualified for the Meet of Champions.
Qualifying wrestlers from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua’s public middle school teams and Nashua Catholic Junior High all participated in the tourney.
The top three receiving honors at the MOC will move onto New England’s in North Andover, Mass. on March 15 and 16.

The St. Chris Huskies struggled until the fourth quarter when they erupted, putting 14 points on the scoreboard to cut the deficit to four.
Sophia Lathram did a tremendous job at point guard for St. Chris with six points. Kirsten McIntire had 10 and Kristen Coumas contributed four.

St. Christopher and St. Joseph battled back and fourth throughout the game, resulting in multiple lead changes.
Key defensive contributors for St. Chris were Quinn Mansperger, Aidan DeNeill, Luke Mutty and Matthew Kerutis.
Offensively, Spencer Labrecque (12 points), Jacob Langenfeld (four), Keith Dow, David Dow, Keegan Murphy and Trevor Labrecque (two each) shined for St. Chris.

Knights 32 Panthers 16
The Knights opened up the second half with their best effort of the season. Julianna Martin led all scorers with 14 points and Kara Kelliher added six.
Tied 8-8 at halftime, the Knights went on a 20-4 run led by Christyllis Nasella who hit two huge jump shots from the top of the key. Hailey Sullivan, Shelby Richards, Madison Sewade, and Rebecca Zhu round out the scoring with two points each.
Morgan Laforge ignited the Knights defense with the help of Narhirra Babu and Kayla Ravagno.
The Panthers had a balanced attack with Rita Dow (six points), Paige Anger and Mia Maden (four each), and Alexis Trudel (two) leading the way.

Squirt 2 White 2
The Cavaliers offensive line of Sal Vella, Kevin Sullivan and Chase Devins started the first period strong. With just 1:17 into the game Sullivan skated the puck up the far boards after making a steal from a Winchester defender.
He was able to draw both defensemen to him leaving Vella open through the slot. Sullivan made the pass to Vella, who beat the Winchester goalie just over his glove hand for a 1-0 Cavs lead.
Strong Cavaliers defense by Michael Spinazzola and Matthew Choate along with several saves by goaltender Jacob Roy kept Winchester scoreless until a sudden surge by their offense late in the period.
With four minutes remaining Winchester tied the game and with less than two minutes remaining added another two goals.
Winchester added two second period goals to make it a 5-1 game and three more in the third. The Cavs’ Jesse Gertz scored on a breakaway to account for the 8-2 final.

Gymnastics wins again
Nashua School of Gymnastics Levels 6, 9 and 10 teams competed at the Greensboro (N.C.) Gymnastics Invitational with the Level 6 team taking first place with a score of 110.275.

Devon Rosier had an All- Around of 36.85 (second) with a 9.50 (first) on vault, 8.625 (second) on bars, 9.15 (fourth) on beam and 9.575 (third) on floor.
Level 6 (Division F) Olivia Bouthot had a third place All Around of 36.075 (third); she scored a 8.55 on vault, 9.00 (second) on bars, 9.025 (fourth) on beam and 9.50 (third) on floor.
Reece Greenleaf had an All-Around Score of 35.625 (fourth); she scored a 8.80 (fifth) on vault, 8.525 (third) on bars, 8.85 (sixth) on beam and 9.45 (fourth) on floor.
Level 6 (Division G)
Kyra Rivest had a first place All-Around of 36.55 as she scored a 9.45 (first) on vault, 9.125 (firt) on bars, 8.425 on beam and 9.55 (first) on floor.
Lexi Sarro had an All- Around of 34.45 (sixth); she scored a 7.80 on vault, 8.70 (fifth) on bars, 8.70 (sixth) on beam and 9.25 (fifth) on floor.
Abby Fitzpatrick had an All-Around of 34.20 (eighth) with a 8.85 (fourth) on vault, 7.40 on bars, 8.80 (fifth) on beam and 9.15 (sixth) on floor.

Isabel Pearson had an All- Around of 32.00 (sixth); she scored a 7.90 (seventh) on vault, 7.475 (sixth) on bars, 8.35 (sixth, tie) on beam and 8.35 (eighth) on floor.

Meghan Middlemiss had an All-Around score of 33.85 (fifth) as she scored an 8.85 (seventh) on vault, 7.75 (seventh) on bars, 8.50 (fourth) on beam and 8.95 (fifth) on floor.

Softball registration
Signups are now open for Hollis Brookline Youth Softball.
There are teams available for 10U Rookies/ 12U Minors and 12U Majors and 16U Juniors.

Nashua field hockey
clinic
There will be a girls youth field hockey clinic for girls ages six and older held at Nashua High School North on Saturdays March 15 and 22 from 3-5 p.m. Admission is free.
Girls will need a stick, goggles and mouth guard, although some mouth guards will be available for purchase and there will be extra sticks and goggles for newcomers to the sport.
Instructors will be coaches and players from Nashua North, South, and Bishop Guertin.
The clinic will focus on the basics of the game and starter skills for beginners as well as strengthening advanced skills and techniques for prior players.

League registration
Registration for the Nashua Youth Soccer League is open to boys and girls in Nashua and surrounding towns born between Oct. 1, 1994 and Sept. 30, 2008.
Youths can register on line at.NashuaYouthSoccer.org. Registration closes on March 25.
Registrations received by that date will be guaranteed a spot on a team.
Registrations after March 25 may be put on a waiting list.
The season is tentatively scheduled to start April 12.
Coaches and volunteers are needed.
Grainite State Raiders
AU basketball
The Granite State Raiders AAU basketball program will hold registration and tryouts at the Concord Boys & Girls Club on March 22 and 23.
On March 22, tryouts for sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys is 8-9:30 a.m.; ninth, 10th, 11th grade boys is 9:30-11 a.m.
On March 23 times are as follows:
Third, fourth and fifth grade boys/girls are at 8-9 a.m.; sixth, seventh, and eighth grade girls 9-10 a.m.; ninth, 10th, 11th grade girls 10-11 a.m.; sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys 11 a.m.-12 p.m.; ninth, 10th, 11th grade boys 12 p.m.-1 p.m.

Spring registration for Hudson Youth Baseball is now open.
HYB features six divisions (T-ball, Rookie, AA, AAA, Majors, and Babe Ruth Division) for boys and girls ages 4-15.

The New Hampshire Knights and New Hampshire Diamond Devils have a few openings to fill out 2014 rosters.
The programs offer off season training, a 30 game schedule, travel tournaments and complete uniforms including jacket and batting helmet.
The 12-U Diamond Devils are the Southern New Hampshire All Stars and will be competing in Cooperstown, N.Y. in August.
The 12U Diamond Devils, 13U NH Knights and 14U NH Knights have openings for accomplished players with All Star experience that can play at least two positions.
The teams will not conflict with school ball or local recreation programs. Features of the program include professional coaches, video analysis, strength and conditioning, small roster sizes and a flexible schedule.

Nashua Baseball
Academy training
The Nashua Baseball Academy will hold group training for athletes to prepare for the upcoming spring season. Training is offered in age brackets 12-and-under and 13-and-older.
Practices are twice per week for 90 minutes and fundamentals and mechanics are covered in a team like setting.
Boys are taught a skill, involved in repetitive exercises to practice the skill and then compete in fun games to test and improve skills.
The fee is $300 for 12 practices, or $25 for a 90-minute session and scholarships are available based on need.

The Youngsville Granite Heat of Manchester/Auburn have openings on their 13- and 14 year-old teams. Winter workouts have begun.
