Nashua skier qualifies for BWL state championships
Nicole DePaolo of Nashua, a member of the Attitash Alpine Race Team placed ninth in the U14 Buddy Werner Qualifier held at Bretton Woods.
The U14 ladies slalom eastern division had 42 athletes ages 12 and 13 competing at the final qualifier race of the season. The eastern division includes teams from Attitash, King Pine, Cranmore, Wildcat and Bretton Woods.
DePaolo placed 13th in her first run with a time of 38.33 and placed eighth in her second run with a time of 36.98. Her combined time was 1:15.31; the 10th best time for both U12 and U14s categories, exceeding 80 female athletes.
Her successful runs at all three qualifying races during this season positioned her to qualify for the Buddy Werner League state championships to be held at Dartmouth Ski Way next Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9.
At this event, the top 20 athletes from each division of the state participate in two days of slalom and giant slalom races to compete in the Eastern Championships at Stowe. There will be 80 female athletes in the U14 category; ranked as the top skiers in this age group competing in this state. This event is sponsored NHARA, New Hampshire Alpine Racing Association for junior alpine racing.
DePaolo , a seventh grade student at Pennichuck Middle school, has been skiing at Attitash since kindergarten and joined the race team last season.

Grade 4 boys
Nashua was down at 21-5 before rallying to beat Wilmington, 39-34.
David Mullaney had four points in the last 30 seconds of the first half ,including a buzzer beater to cut the Wilmington lead to 22-15. For the game, Michael Rostano had 11 points and six rebounds while Mullaney added nine points. River Hart (seven points), Joshua Kane (six), Aidan Lynn (two), Alex Hulfachor (four points, eight rebounds and eight steals), Michael Popik (four rebounds), and Nick Dahl also contributed.
Grade 5 boys green
The Nighthawks last week finished their second straight unbeaten regular season at 14-0.
In their regular season finale, an undermanned Nashua team topped Wakefield 69-45 thanks in part to Nathan Kane (21 points), John Sullivan (19), and Jaden Murphy (12). Curtis Harris (11 points), Cody Rocheleau (four), and Liam Novak (two).
The Nighthawks also topped Billerica, 63-34, behind 13 points each from Kane and Jalen Gilmore. Mikey Robbins and Harris (11 each), Sullivan (seven), Matt Keisling (six), and Rocheleau (two) also helped.
Harris and Robbins had four steals a piece, while Sullivan added three blocked shots and nine rebounds, and Josh Taylor had five boards.
The Nighthawks also captured the Fundamental Hoops February Shootout tournament, playing in the sixth grade bracket. They defeated Winchester-Reading, Mass., 61-26; Brookline 45-26; and Stoneham , Mass., in the championship game 49-27.
The team, coached by Stephanie Kane and Aaron Lopez, will be competing in the playoffs at Rivier University on March 8.

Nashua ended the regular season at 9-3, defeating Tewksbury, Mass., Pelham and Billerica, Mass.
Standouts in the 47-16 win over Tewksbury included: Isaac Acorn (10 points, three assists, five steals), Connor Dunning and Sid Dutta (nine points each), Stephen Norris (seven points, 10 rebounds, four assists), Sam McElliott (six points, 12 rebounds), Daniel Dockrill (two points, seven rebounds), and Kyle Gauthier and Landon Moore (two points each).
In the 54-34 win over
Pelham, Dunning topped the scoring with 16 points and nine rebounds, followed by Acorn with 11 points and Norris with 10 points and three assists. Scoring also came from Dockrill (five points), McElliott (four points, nine rebounds), and Dutta (four points).
The Nighthawks topped Billerica, 41-28 with strong offensive and defensive efforts by Norris (14 points, seven steals) and McElliott (nine points, 14 rebounds).
Dockrill (six steals), Acorn (four assists, nine steals), Dunning, and Moore all added four points each. Sebastian Coelho added two points and Nick Drew played well defensively.

Josh Lentz led the Cavs with 13 , while Mason Matylewski added nine and Stav Alakay, six. David Tejada’s eight points led the Knicks.
Cavs 40, Satellites 23
Matylewski (12 points), Lentz (nine), Rishi Patel, Miles Rios and Gavin Belesca (six each) led the winers while Spencer Deshroushers (eight points) led the Satellites. Nolan Foss, Joe Bodi, Austin Ouillette and Austin Bourque played well.
Cavs 51, Pistons 34
Matylewski led the Cavs with 17, followed by Lentz with 12, and Patel with seven. Miles Rios, Luis Maldonando, Travis Holbrook, Belesca, and Alkalay also scored, while defensively Nathan Broduer, Cam Miele, and Patrick Jackson played well. Mike Robbins led the Pistons with 19, while Jake Robbins had six. Also scoring were Drew Frost,Tyler Julian, Brendan Peno, and Brendan Douglas.
Cavs 39, Warrors 25
Lentz (19 points) and Matylewski (16) paced the win while also contributing were Rios, Maldonado, Patrick Jackson, Jacob Soucie and Miele. The Warriors were Led by Aaron Roberge’s 13, helped out by Gaven Forcier, Luis Mendez, Kyle Salemi, Isacc Acorn, and Angao Chugh.
Stars 51, Cavs 36
Lukas Fong (22) and James Bolton (10) led the winners, who finished the regular season undefeated (16-0). Also helping offensively were Nathan Kane, Ashay Gandhi, Joesph Cho, Nathan Chisolm, Andrew Tall, and Cameron Lee.
The Cavs were led by Matylewski (11) and Lentz (nine). The Cavs finished 13-3.

Blue win two
The Cavs’ first win came against the East Coast Wizards, 3-2. Down 1-0 in the second period, the Cavs’ Jack Conmy set up defensemen Andre Ducharme to tie the game.
The Cavaliers took the lead with a goal by Ducharme, assisted by Nate Bizier. While the Wizards bounced back to tie it, Cavs defensemen Ryan Bizier forechecked well while forwards Ryan Kelley, Matthew MacBean and Aidan Rowe put the offensive pressure on.
At the 8:50 mark of the third, Ethan Gaffney scored on a rebound of a Will Dodge breakaway shot for the game-winners. Thomas Cahill also got an assist.
Matt D’Ortona made a point blank save at 1:14 of the third to preserve the win.
The Cavs then blew out Framingham 13-1, starting with five first period goals, four by Ducharme and one by Dodge.D’Ortona, MacBean and Ryan Kelley played well, Kelley getting an assist on a Ducharme shorthanded goal.
Thomas Cahill scored the sixth of the game with assist going to Gaffney and Dodge.
Nate Bizier would make it an eight goal lead with two unassisted goals just eight seconds apart. Two more goals by Rowe would make it 10-0 with one assist to Jack Conmy. Dodge scored a wrap around goal for the 11th of the game before Gaffney closed out the scoring with two more goals with assist to Ducharme and Rowe.
Gymnastics
The Nashua School of Gymnastics Levels 4 (109.65) and 6 (110.225) captured championships in the Friendship Classic Invitational Meet in Bow, with other levels also competing.

There will be a girls youth field hockey clinic for girls age 6 and older at Nashua High School North on Saturdays March 8, 15 and 22 from 3-5 p.m. Admission is free.
Girls will need a stick, goggles and mouth guard, although some mouth guards will be available for purchase and there will be extra sticks and goggles for newcomers to the sport.
Instructors will be coaches and players from Nashua North, South, and Bishop Guertin. The clinic will focus on the basics of the game and starter skills for beginners as well as strengthening advanced skills and techniques for prior players.

Registration for the spring season is now open for Greater Nashua Little League.
oys and girls ages 5-12 who attend school in Nashua, or live in Nashua, Hudson, or Dunstable, Mass. are eligible. Nashua Little League offers T-Ball, Minors, Majors and Challenger divisions.
Registration is only $40 per child with a family cap of $90. Every child who registers will be placed on a team.

The New Hampshire Knights and New Hampshire Diamond Devils have a few openings to fill out 2014 rosters.
The programs offer off season training, a 30 game schedule, travel tournaments and complete uniforms including jacket and batting helmet. The 12-U Diamond Devils are the Southern New Hampshire All Stars and will be competing in Cooperstown, N.Y. in August.
The 12U Diamond Devils, 13U NH Knights and 14U NH Knights have openings for accomplished players with All Star experience that can play at least two positions. The teams will not conflict with school ball or local recreation programs. Academy training
The Nashua Baseball Academy will hold group training for athletes to prepare for the upcoming spring season. Training is offered in age brackets 12-and-under and 13-and-older.
Practices are twice per week for one-and-a-half hours and fundamentals and mechanics are covered in a team like setting. Boys are taught a skill, involved in repetitive exercises to practice the skill and then compete in fun games to test and improve skills.
