Cavalier Squirt 2 White goes 2-0

In the first game this past week, the Cavaliers topped Parkway 6-3. The Cavs first line offense of Kevin Sullivan, Jesse Gertz and Matt Choate went out strong, but aggressive Parkway defense and a stingy goaltender held this group at bay.

That is, until halfway through the first, when Ryan McInnis broke away on a pass from Ty Soule for breakaway goal. Just under a minute later Gertz scored a second goal on a centering pass from Choate. The Cavaliers scored their third of the period with three minutes left to play with Ty Soule crashing the net on a wrist shot rebound , assist from McInnis.

In the second period, Parkway started picking up steam, but aggressive back checking highlighted by Michael Spinazzola making a last second diving block for goaltender Jacob Roy after chasing down a Parkway two-on-none breakaway.

However, unwilling to give up in the third period, Parkway rallied and scored three goals. Bu the Cavs’ offense responded with scores from Chase Devins, Soule and Gertz to seal the win.

In the second game of the week versus Cambridge, the defense of Sinead Macareag, Spinazzola, Choate and Sullivan kept the puck in the offensive zone for most of the first period while putting several hard shots on the Cambridge goalie. Scooping up rebounds for goals were Evan Doughty, Gertz and Sal Vella.

Cambridge shot right back at the start of the second period with a goal, but it was quickly answered by Gertz to keep the three-goal lead. With six minutes left in the second period, Vella scored another quick two goals for the hat trick assisted by Jacob Roy and Sullivan. Cambridge tried to gain some momentum in the third with another goal but was quickly answered by Gertz for a hat trick as well as a pair of goals late in the by Ty Soule.

MITES (5th/6th grade)

Girls: St. Christopher 22,
St. Patrick 6

The St. Christopher girls won behind the solid defense of Kristen Coumas, Nicole Yeaton and Ava Therrien. High Scorers for St. Chris were Natalie Sheehy and Sophia Lathram, each with eight points.

Grace Wilson had four and Kirsten McIntire contributed two points. Anna Stawasz, Claire LaPlante, Jordan Boschetto, and Aliya Lewis played hard on the boards the for the Huskies.

In their season-opener the St. Christopher 5th grade squad had a tough defeat against St. Patrick’s Parish. David Dow (four) and Spencer Labrecque (one) contributed the points for St. Chris.

The St. Chris sixth grade boys squad enjoyed their victory of the season. Matthew Thibault (12 points), Chase Nickerson (seven), and Alex Williams (seven) were strong offensively Manny Mendoza, Jackson Lewis, Joey Stone, Toby Therrien and Alex Nicholas rounded out the offensive effort, each contributing two points.
