Birch Hill captured the Deb Frasier Cup, awarded annually to the girls team champion, and Bicentennial School won the Mark Frasier Cup, awarded annually to the boys team champion, at last weekend’s Nashua Police Athletic League (PAL) Alec’s Shoe Elementary School Cross Country Championships.

More than 900 youth runners from the city’s 15 public, Catholic, and private elementary schools participated in the program, culminating in the 18th annual championship race at Nashua North High School.
The day’s races, sponsored by Nashua PAL in partnership with primary sponsor Alec’s Shoe, and also supported by St. Joseph Hospital, were run in four flights: two 2-kilometer races for boys and girls in third grade and under, and two 3-kilometer races for boys and girls in fifth grade and under. Finishing second and third behind Birch Hill in the girls 3K event were Charlotte Avenue and Bicentennial. New Searles and Main Dunstable followed city champ Bicentennial in the boys 3K race.

Football

PAL Force results

The Nashua PAL Force was away the weekend of October 13, but played like they were at home.

The NPF Grade 3 Force remained undefeated and defeated the Cobras of Manchester, 20-6. The Force closed out the scoring for the day with Taylor Ranga picking up big yards behind Reagan Brunet and Amaury Almonte capping off the long drive with a TD.

The Nashua PAL Grade 4 Football team traveled to Laconia to face the Franklin Falcons.

In the end, Zach Howard’s interception return for a touchdown with only 4 seconds remaining sent the visiting team home with a 12-6 victory.

The Grade 6 team beat the Manchester East Cobras, 27–18.

Bedford topped the Grade 6 team, 38-6, and the Grade 8 defeated Manchester West, 39-7.

Field hockey

The new combined Nashua Middle School Field Hockey team lost a hard fought battle to Hollis on Oct. 9 in Hollis.

Nashua started off strong and got the ball immediately into Hollis’ defending end but just couldn’t score. Michela Moffet, Victoria Gates, Alise Kaplan, Maddie Rowe, Erin Sewell, Gabby Laferriere, Grace Tommasetti, Maria Alton, Paula Durant, Jazzmyn Siraco, Natalie Green, Kaylie Keegan and Emma Tommasetti all played well defensively for Nashua, limiting Hollis to five goals and seven corners.

The midfielders worked hard on both offense and defense and did a tremendous job of taking free hits quickly. Nashua had strong midfield play from Calley Goulet, Danielle Upton, Paige Callahan, Hannah Farley, Britney Pearson, Abbey Rowe, Sarah St. Pierre, Kayleigh Eckenrode and Emerson Martin.

The Nashua offense applied pressure many times in the game, getting six corners and setting up some nice plays in front of the net.

On offense for the Nashua team were Madison Sewade, Julia Gagnon, Hannah Hansen, Gabby Paquette, Kirsten McIntire, Arianna Roberts, Vanessa Norton, Elise Yabroudy and Theresa Ellison.

Nashua finally got on the board in the second half on a pass from Britney Pearson off a hit from the top of the circle to Abbey Rowe who banged it home for the Nashua program’s first goal.

Zoe Fillebrown and Maya Gupta did a tremendous job in the net for the middle school team and combined for 16 saves. Injured players Olivia Kingston and Hannah Muchemore, as well as Stella Liakakos provided support for the Nashua girls.
